RE: Mack gone from Xavier
Happy for Mack. He did a lot of great things at Xavier, but it was probably time he entered a new chapter in his life. He's been at Xavier for over 15 years, between a head coach, assistant coach and as a player. Aside from a Final Four/NC run, he has really accomplished all he could have at the school. Louisville will give him a new challenge and a new opportunity, and he sounds like he will be paid handsomely for his efforts. Good for him.

As far as Xavier, they will be totally fine. Like many other programs, Xavier's basketball program is built on a number of terrific coaches - Mack, Miller, Motta, Prosser and others. Xavier will find a new head coach that will continue to elevate the program and add his own success to it. Really looking forward to seeing who gets offered. They will be in prime position moving forward.

Any time you have a coach leave, there is a risk of a bad hire.

Also saw that grad transfer Evan Boudreaux has reopened his recruitment. Considering how much they're losing in Macura, Bluiett, Kanter, and O'Mara- it's pretty bad. 89/200 minutes in the FSU game were from those 4 guys, with 40 of the 70 points and 14 of the 33 rebounds. They could get pretty thin next year if a few of the guys transfer/recruits bail.

History goes against that threat of such a risk. Xavier has an incredibly solid record of coaching hires, much like Butler. If they were a stock, they would be a strong buy. They have a great history, tradition, conference affiliation, media market, as well as facilities and resources. They will be just fine.

If it ends up being Steele, which is who the players are supporting, it will be a smooth transition.

Sorry to hear Mack is leaving. He's turned down a bunch of job offers in the past. But $28,000,000 is a lot of money.

Yeah, 28 million is a lot of money. tough to blame him at all. The vitrol some are spewing his way is IMO way over the top.

So have 4 coaches left from the original league 5 years ago. Wright, Cooley, Willard, and McDermott.

RE: Mack gone from Xavier
The eastern schools have two new coaches because the previous coaches were let go (Lavin and JT3).

The midwestern teams have had more coaches poached
1) Brad Stevens to the Celtics, $22 million
2) Chris Holtmann to Ohio State, $24 million
3) Chris Mack to Louisville, $28 million
4) Buzz Williams to Virginia Tech (although his relationship with the Marquette athletic dept seemed shaky at the end)

That's an interesting point- one that I hadn't thought of before. Although doesn't account for Purnell at DePaul 02-13-banana

will be interesting to see who replaces Mack. Like Rothstein said, 1st time Xavier has had to make this move in a different situation.

That's an understatement if I've ever read one.

RE: Mack gone from Xavier
In 5 years, Mack was only able to beat Villanova one time in eleven games. Hopefully he has better luck in the ACC against Duke & NC.

Once Big East coaches have made the NCAA tournament two or three times, they need to be making at least $2 million per year.

LOL- one of the best takes yet with Mack.

And yes, very true with the salaries.
