Flashketball, maybe not flunking out, but at least close to being put on academic probation. I wish I had some reason to be optimistic, but to me the future looks like just more mediocrity.

I think it’s just a comment on our basketball ability not our classroom standing.

I think he was just stretching the metaphor of "tradition never graduates" a little too thin.

I sat next to the Buffalo section, and had a good look at the Bulls bench all game long. I’m not a fan of Oats after that game. I’m all for an energetic, passionate coach (didn’t see that from Rob last night...), but Oats was a bit too much at times and I thought he deserved a technical at one point. Dick is a fair assessment.

I had the pleasure of meeting Demetrius Shaw last night - great guy!

At one point during a play it looked like he reached out and pushed one of his players that was in the corner that was supposed to be rotating up top. I was on the opposite corner so I didn't have a great view so maybe he didn't actually touch him but it looked like he did.

As for the post game comment it doesn't upset me that much. When you're going against a guy ADs size it's smart to try to get him running. Maybe didn't word the comment the best, but I don't think it was intended to be a personal attack. They came in with a game plan to take us out of our game and make us play their style and the executed it. Have to give them props for that.

It will be interesting to see what this off season holds for Oats. If we had a coach take us to the tornament 2 of his first 3 years and the other year lose to the eventual champion, that guy would be gone in a heartbeat. If he stays though, they could be in for another great season. They'll be a senior heavy team, we'll be a senior heavy team, Akron's transfers will be eligible, bg, Toledo, and emu all have a lot coming back. The MAC could be a lot better next year.

Not only was it a bad shot, it just didn’t make sense because three Bulls were waiting for a rebound. Immediately after that, UB scored three straight buckets on offensive rebounds. I am pretty sure our leading rebounder was on the bench the whole time. That’s a tough one to reconcile.

All in all, a pretty average season. A .500 record overall and in conference. The dreaded “middle ground.”

Very big off-season coming up. Hope we can strap our big boy recruting boots on because the MAC East is about to be a meat grinder next year. Oof.

Honestly, I think the key to next year is development rather than recruiting. At this point we have one open scholarship. There are usually one or two defections but barring something unforseen we'll have 5 seniors 4 of which are starters. The wing remains the only open starting spot and we could land a good player to take that.

However, I think we maximize our potential if Duling makes strides in the off-season and takes that starting spot. Offensively he showed he's capable of knocking down perimeter shots and handling the ball. He needs to show he can guard on the perimeter and close out on threes for that to happen. I really like that potential lineup because Duling and Pippen both block a lot of shots but when they're in there together we give up too many offensive rebounds. However, if Duling is at the three and AD is in there we have a better chance of tightening that up.

If he can't do it we already have Gholston and Harris coming in to challenge Peterson for the spot or Ali if we don't mind going real small. So unless we find a really big recruit I'd be surprised if anyone we add from this point out starts... Barring an unforseen defection of one of our starters of course.

Personally, I'd like to see us bring in a 3 or 4 year PG with that last scholarship. Might not make a huge difference to next year but he'd have a year to learn from Avery. Remember that whole tradition not graduating thing?

I saw we offered Kawanise Wilkins over the weekend. He's a 6'6" 230 JUCO freshman G and he's a qualifier so he can come in next year and have 3 years of eligibility remaining. He's scoring 15.1 ppg, 9.4 rpg and shooting 48.9%/36.4%/74.4%. He seems like literally the perfect fit for our team. If we land him I'd be happy to admit I was wrong that we won't find a wing that would be the favorite to start at this point.

Miami and BG were pretty young teams as well. I think Miami is close to contendership (the act of being a contender) than BG, but BG has some talent.

Look at it this way: BG was one of the youngest teams in America last year. We split with them. Miami had a brand new, young team with a bunch of freshmen. We split with them. OU was one of the worst teams in the MAC all year and had a bunch of injuries. We split with them. Akron had a huge roster turnover and a new coach. We split with them. Notice a pattern here?

You didn’t include Buffalo. They further muddy the water.

Dan Dahich yesterday made a big play that Oates needs to get out of the MAC for a big time coaching position. I doubt that he will be back next year at Buffalo. Wait and see if I'm right. If Buffalo plays anything close to the performance this weekend, they will make some noise in the big dance.

OATS SIGNED A NEW CONTRACT EXTENSION DURING THE MAC TOURNAMENT .... now that doesn't mean he's a lock to stay, just the Buffalo (hopefully) got him to sign off on a pretty good buyout if he does pack up. Smart move for both.

I think it will depend on the openings if he moves this year or next. UConn is pretty enticing but they might not be looking in his direction. His team next year on paper should be better than this year which would increase his stock and pay.

Kent has declined further play (CIT or CBI) per the Record Courier. Injury to De La Rosa and length of season which included trip to Costa Rica were key factors.

Good decision, Kentville. I can't imagine anyone on the team wants to drag out this season any longer.

Miami is in the CBI, EMU and CMU in the CIT. Toledo and Ball State declined offers to play. The CIT, which is supposed to be a 32 team tournament, could only muster up 20 teams this year.

They only had 24 last year. That tournament in Las Vegas also died. Nobody wanted to go. I think the Southland Conference has 6 or 7 teams in the CIT and the CBI so their strategy must be take any bid you can get. Only good thing is I’m watching four games today (essentially CIT play in games) on CBS sports network. CMU is down by 2 with 4 to go.

Hopefully that is a sign of the beginning of the end for those silly post-season tournaments. Pay-to-play? No thanks. Pointless.
