97-67. When was the last time we lost by 30 at HOME?
Seven year plan is working perfect.

MBB vs Toledo
I guess the team forgot to read the scouting report on Toledo.

STF is my least favorite AD and that is going back 40 years.

Monty doesn't need thanks for his effort. He's been paid handsomly and had a great opportunity to be a NCAA head coach. He's awful. STF is no better. He's done as little as Monty.

^^^^this. I’ve personally grown tired of STF’s leadership. State budget or not adapt and overcome. Develope new revenue streams (granted they are trying with Convo naming rights). Better communication. Web based coaches shows. Think outside the box. Hell I don’t know and maybe the entire athletic department hasn’t a clue either.

Get out in front of the “common people” make them feel wanted. Form the family.

Anything.

Rant over. Where’s the Tylenol?

The convo naming rights should've been capitalized on 20 years ago anyway. My hunch is that feedback/interest has been disappointing. We'll probably end up with a poorly negotiated 10 year contract.

Probably a little regency effect going on, but I cannot remember feeling this depleted watching a game live at home. Drove in from the city expecting a good game & 5 minutes into it you knew we were done. Toledo team was way into this game, the bench included from opening tip. We were just so lifeless. Just bad is all I can say.

Quick scan of year-by-year results, it's Monty's worst home loss but not really something new in Monty's tenure:

Just three days before: -29 (53-82) at EMU.

2013-14: -36 (63-99) at Iowa State
2012-13: -37 (34-71) at WMU

2011-12: -34 (59-90) at KSU, -30 (41-71) at UT, -33 (55-88) at Iowa,
-62 (34-96) at Purdue

Worst home loss since 11-29-10: -29 (51-80) vs. Boise State
but not as bad home loss as 2002-03: -32 (45-77) vs. UIC

Seventh season for Monty = seven straight years of double-digit losses; seven straight years not being above .500 in the MAC.
Yes, that includes his vaunted 2015-16 record of 20-11 against the single worst schedule in NIU men's basketball history which included a 9-9 MAC record -- good enough only for a tie for third in the MAC West -- but the only time Monty didn't have double-digit MAC losses. How many variations of the definition of loser are necessary?
Of course if MD wasn't banned, he'd still insist MAC is either second or third-best mid-major league.

Have been thinking the same thing. The only way we get a good deal at this point is if the company is NIU alum owned.

Bring MD back! He was passionate about basketball. Why can't NIU find success in basketball? Novak brought football back. Monty a good guy but making Carey looking like a world beater. Sorry for rambling. Just frustrated

Wasn't able to watch tonight...and thank goodness. To lose a conference home game by 30 points...wowza. Doesn't get much worse than that.

I agree the whole department sucks. For a school with a reputable marketing college, they suck at marketing their teams. The new logo is cartoonish and for fu,cks sake can we get on the same page and push "NIU" not northern Illinois.

Second that and have thought that for a long time. I almost never see anything for NIU within 30 minutes of campus but continually see ads for other MAC schools. NIU has almost no presence right now in its own backyard. Sending out a couple tweets to a 100 fans on game day is not marketing. I think it is an athletics and university issue.

This is very true. The NIU marketing area (whatever marketing is done) is extremely local. And Athletics also forgets that they have fans beyond the far western suburbs. They seem to cater to the fans living close by. And most events are held on weeknights when only the locals can attend. They seem to forget that they have fans in further suburbs, Rockford area (and beyond), and central Illinois. Their marketing push and catering to fans should cover a much wider area. Maybe they could even win some fans (a novel idea).

Yes, I've mentioned that before. The definition of ironic. 03-banghead

Thank you for this post. I was telling someone that I've seen billboards in different suburban areas for Bowling Green, Miami, Western Michigan, and Ball State, but was told it was my imagination.
