In the spirit of Cub fandom eternal hope, anything above 0-4 is possible, but Diehard is a realist (as am I). The realist sees that we have a brutal OOC schedule, a QB who can't pass, and a coach who is too predictable.....except for his boneheaded play calls. For the realist, 0-4 is a very real possibility, if not probability. Of course, we hope for more (even 4-0), but in the real world, we know better.

+1. I am very concerned about injuries. And I am hoping that our HC doesn't embarrass us.

We don't have a decent QB to pull off these wins. Our offense just never had any spark in 2017 except under Santa. We all know that's not possible now with him gone & I don't expect it to change with Childers. We are in for a long few years with a so-so QB. We very possibly will not be bowl eligible this season. (I REALLY want to be wrong.)

I want to argue with you here.....but I just can't. I don't have a leg to stand on. Even if we have a better QB in practices he will throw 1 interception and will be in the doghouse for 3 years.

- Utah only beat two teams with winning records last season (Arizona and West Virgina), but they were pretty young on both sides of the ball. PAC-12 teams have really struggled recently.

The credibility problem with your thinking is that these schools are not aware of their own short-comings and are not taking steps to address them. You're hoping the Huskies improve via newcomers or returnees being a year older, stronger, and wiser. Hard to believe Iowa wasn't trying to find / develop replacements and the home field advantage will disappear. As for Utah only beating two teams with winning records, remind us again how many foes like that did NIU defeat?

It will be interesting to see the Huskies stand in the tall weeds with the big dogs. I like the idea of this schedule. Want to help the program reach new heights, dream of entrance into a more challenging conference? Here is an opportunity to see how it goes. No doubt there could be some rough games but what if they pull off some more upsets? Enjoy the journey. Of course hope for good health of players.

That whole situation was just weird; it just doesn’t add up. After KSU, I think Santa had 2 throws the rest of the year. There has to be a reason Carey went completely “all in” on Childers. He will be the face of the program for the next 3 years so get use to it.

I understand what you're saying, but for Iowa to replace almost an entire defense is ridiculous. Obviously they're taking steps to fill those roles, but that's daunting for any team (especially because their linebackers were so darn good). NIU has played well against the B1G in recent memory. Based off those two things, I believe NIU wins in Iowa City.

As for Utah, I didn't say that NIU was going to beat them. I was stating that they are a younger team that struggled in the previous season as did their conference.

Have a little hope.

I think Iowa comes down to a field goal again and I like our chances with our stud transfer. Iowa loses the THREE best players on the entire team and their top offensive threat. Wadley was one of the better backs in the BIG and will be really hard to replace right away especially first game of the year.

RE: Beat Iowa, Beat Utah!!!
I think we lose all 4

If we're 2-2 that would be amazing for this coaching staff and would expect that we go 9-3 or 10-2 resulting in a coaching extension

Defense should be really good, the return of kyle pugh will be huge

Can our QB take a step forward and improve over last season, if yes we can surprise some people
