UTM has been pretty abysmal the last several years, haven’t they? Outscored 42-9 in four games against Troy last weekend. Not sure how much of a break it is.

for RPI, no.....however, we lost 3 road games that turned into 3 home games.....

from the expense side of the equation, it's an unexpected bonus....

it's also a positive we get to experiment a bit with the lineup....

moving Monte to the 1 spot is a biggie.....I'd rather see Guidry in the 6 vs. the 8, but that's just me....

fyi.....our rpi (which doesn't mean dick right now) went from 9 to 93.......

lmfao at early horseshite 'statistical data'.....

You beat UCF. And Texas State is usually pretty good.

Just the usual brutal schedule.

I don’t understand why Graham continues to do this to your team. You guys don’t have the depth anymore to play this kind of schedule.

It’s a difficult schedule, but it’s not impossible. Solid round-robin event in Orlando followed by a 4-game series at a top 10 team is a rough start. But then you get B2B home series with Gonzaga (decent the past 2 years but traditionally not great) and Houston Baptist (middling Southland team).

Like I said, it’s tough. The toughest in the league. But it’s not like some previous Rice schedules and it doesn’t compare to schedules like LBSU and Tulane.

With CUSA where it is, you have to put together a good OOC. Rice, USM, FAU all need to be scheduling tough and winning big-time series and tournaments.

while I agree with your sentiment to a point, I'm with JXN.....too much can be a bad thing too....

I hate to play both sides....but in this case, a leveling is required....

Rice is headed into transition mode now....it's going to be interesting who replaces Graham

ODU leads Kansas State 11-6 with 1 out in the top of the 8th inning in Norfolk. ODU has hit 5 home runs in the game thus far with their left fielder having 3 of them.

I agree, B. We also need to be smarter about when/where we schedule these big-time series and tournaments. Rice definitely started the season with a very tough schedule.

RE: 2/22 - 2/25 baseball action
Ridiculous. Rice left the bases loaded three times today and loses 2-0.

Now sit at 3-5.

Need to run the table in our OOC against HBU and Gonzaga now...

With regard to the Stanford series, it really isn’t a choice of Rice as this was part of a home & home. More generally though, playing all these tough games does give us the ability to f*** up and still make the NCAAs with 20-24 losses because our RPI is good.

This weekend was just sad as I’m pretty sure our starting pitching had an ERA under 2...

Texas Tech shut us out again, 3-0 this time. Seems our pitching is holding up fairly well against the #3 ranked team, but our bats just can't get going. Third game will be tomorrow afternoon. Hope they won't erupt on us tomorrow, as they came into our series having scored 61 runs in their first 5 games, but have scored 5 and 3 against us.

Welp.... WKU has 4-5 errors in the 9th the give UK the win. Multiple wild pitches in a row brings in runs for a 4-3 loss. Melt down of decade

I don’t understand why Graham continues to do this to your team. You guys don’t have the depth anymore to play this kind of schedule.

With Rice’s schedule, it is as much the quantity of games in short periods as the opponents.

You’re going East Coast for three games, one at home against a normally solid program, then Palo Alto for four. That’s 8 games in 10 days in Orlando, Houston, and Northern California. That’s insane.

But it gets even dumber:
-Houston Baptist for three
-Tuesday and Wednesday games
-A four game set against Gonzaga
-Tuesday and Wednesday games (one against TCU)
...before opening conference play that weekend!!!!

13 days, 11 games right before opening conference play.

They did the same thing last year and had nothing in them by the time conference play started.

Yeah, you’re preaching to the choir re: scheduling.

Luckily, all eleven of those games are within a 100 mile radius of Houston and the ones that aren’t home are midweekers so our guys sleep in their own bed every night.

I really don’t understand the two midweek games before/after a four game set. I think Wayne does it so we don’t have to play midweek games during late April and Early May when the academic crunch hits.
