Estime is shooting with the confidence, which he has lacked up until this point. Gary has been playing tough, made some huge plays to keep us alive in the NU game. Also, Jacque has been great off the bench as well. Those guys will have to continue this play if we are to get that 6th spot.

Brown looks to be the only guy we have that can consistently beat people off the dribble and that includes Talley. His handle reminds me of the small kid at Campbell, obviously not as good of a scorer though.

I can't remember which game, think it was Northeastern, but Brown was a liability on defense. They iso'd him on the right block and he couldn't guard the bigger guard. As much as I like him, I still worry about his size on defense.

That said, I didn't see Saturday night's game.

To be fair, several of the players have had games where they seemed to be a defensive liability.
LOL it was one of our better D performances of the year!

Drexel played well at Charleston until 12 minutes to go. It was tied. Then, Charleston blew their doors off. Right now, I think there is a solid chance either you guys or Drexel moves up and Elon or Towson moves down. But, Towson is totally up and down. The Tribe would like to avoid them, but Towson seems capable of winning over anyone and losing to anyone. I guess they will go 9-9 which is probably good enough for a top 6 finish.

Charleston likely wins the league at this point(they hold the tiebreaker over all the other contenders). Northeastern probably will finish 2nd and then nothing else is decided.

Drexel seemingly lost their chance at a top 6 finish with their blown lead over Towson last Thursday. Unfortunately Drexel goes as Austin Williams goes. 18 point lead disappeared once he got hurt with 11 minutes left and we lost in OT.

He did not play against CofC and despite hanging on for as long as they did (with bad shots falling at a high rate) we gave up almost 1.5 points per possession. Which is how you lose by 22 over the final 10 minutes.

If Williams gets healthy we are a dangerous team, and have shown that recently once everyone got healthy and were on the court consistently, without him there are very few teams we can beat. Because without him we just do not stop anyone. He has made a very clear case for DPOY. Drexel would not be a team I would not be happy to face in Charleston, unless Williams doesnt play.

RE: The final stretch, 2018To
We went from a really good shot to taking that 6th spot to little chance at all. We're now 2 games behind Elon and tied with Drexel for 7th. We face Elon and CofC at home Thursday and Saturday respectively, then finish on the road at William and Mary and Drexel to finish it out.

Elon and Drexel are must wins now to gain tiebreakers, and then we need some help. If we can finish out 2-2 with two home and two away games, Elon will have to finish out 1-4 for us to get in a tiebreaker with them and Drexel can't go better than 2-2 to finish out, with one of those losses being to UNCW the last game of the year at Drexel.

Not looking good.

We kicked a gift horse in the mouth last night.

Looking ahead, I agree that we must beat Elon. That still leaves us a games behind Elon due to last night's loss.

Saturday we host Charelston while Elon is at Delaware. In terms of keeping pace with Elon I think Saturday is a must win as well.

We really need JMU to beat Elon in their makeup game next week. Winning our next 2 home games and a JMU win versus Elon puts us in the 6th slot heading into the last week of play

RE: The final stretch, 2018To
Looking at Thursday here are the other games

Delaware at Towson - Towson will likely win but a Delaware upset would put them in play in game contention as Towson has the Hofstra NE roadtrip during the last week of play.
Im hoping Towson wins this one because we do not want to be in any ties with Delaware at all and if they win this game they could very well run the table looking at their schedule of v.Elon, @Drexel, and v.JMU

Charleston at JMU - JMU on a 4 game home winning streak. Almost beat CoC at Charleston. I really hope CoC wins this one as we are tied with JMU in the loss column and if they beat CoC we run the risk of losing a potential tiebreaker to them in the battle to avoid Saturday

Drexel at Northeastern - NE should win this won and that is good because we aren't catching NE but run the risk of getting passed by Drexel

W&M at Hofstra - This one really doesn't effect us too much as neither team is likely to be in the play in game hunt. For tiebreaker purposes I suppose a Hofstra win would be nice since that would put them in contention for the 3 slot, which could help us win any secondary tie breakers.

Take it one game at a time. Still 4 games to sort this all out. Just focus on beating Elon Thursday first.

RE: The final stretch, 2018To
Things went our way tonight

Looking at the Saturday games
Charleston is a must win IMO if we want that 6th seed. We could probably still get it with a loss but it's unlikely

Drexel @ Hofstra - Hofstra should win and that would give us breathing room with Drexel. The higher Hofstra finishes the better it is for our tiebreaker

William and Mary @ Northeastern - Should be a good game. Doesn't really impact UNCW that much but we can still get a win over the Tribe so them winning would be slightly more helpful

Elon @ Delaware - If we beat Charleston, a Delaware win would put us in that 6th slot heading to the last week. If we don't, an Elon win helps keep us from falling into a tie with Delaware

JMU @ Towson - If we beat, Charleston a JMU win put us 1 game behind Towson for the 5th slot. If we lose to Charleston, a Towson win keeps us ahead of JMU

Saturday is a big weekend. I hope we continue the momentum from tonight. We still have a good chance to avoid Saturday play in

RE: The final stretch, 2018To
This is a team where the players really have to play within their game and not try to do more than they are capable of.

Talley can score, but as PG we need him to keep movement on offense and get everyone involved. When he dribbles up the court and takes the shot as well, we play poorly. He's better scoring after he has passed the ball and rotates to get a pass for an open shot.

Cacok is going to draw a lot of double and triple teams going forward. He needs to be aware when the traps come and get the ball out quickly. His game has expanded, but those jumpers need to be few and far between.

Taylor can score from anywhere and he hits the board hard. His only weakness is trying to do too much without great handles. He can go one on one, but he can't dribble through traffic.

Gary, Estime and Fornes are spot up shooters. They need to sit on the 3 point line, catch and shoot. Fornes and Estime have some ability to drive and score, but not in heavy traffic.

Bryan is a clean up player in the post. He looks good establishing position off rebounds, then pump faking and scoring. Although he isn't scoring a lot, he has become incredibly efficient in the post.

Brown. His best game is distributing the ball. Just like Talley, he needs to make the first pass then rotate to maybe get a shot. When he dribbles up and then takes the shot we don't look good.

You can tell the coaches have done a really good job of keeping the guys more disciplined lately. Not as many dumb full court outlet passes that become turnovers or forced passes to the post. Brown at PG allows Gary to become a spot up shooter from 3 where he is really dangerous. Kalina on the bench in favor of a 4 guard offense with either Cacok or Bryan as the lone big man. Right now our substitutions aren't creating a big drop off in play.

Not sure if we can get to the 6th. spot, but if we can we have the players to beat anyone. We haven't proven we can away from Trask though.

IMO, it all comes down to Ty Taylor. When he disappears, we lose. When he's involved and looking to score, we win. Also, when he is taking the most shots everyone else is involved too. But, I think it's because it means Talley is looking to distribute and not score, which gets everyone involved including Taylor.

W -Elon - Taylor had 19 points and we had four in double figures
W -Hofstra - Taylor had 16 and five in double figures
OT L NU - Taylor had 27 and four in double figures
W - Towson Taylor had 20 and four in double figures
W - Elon Taylor had 17 and four in double figures

Team ball more than anything leads to wins this year. We have won when we are passing and getting everyone involved in scoring. And Taylor benefits more than anyone when that happens. He is our x factor this year. But he's not a selfish player, so he has to be pushed to get his. Let's see of we can look for the extra pass. What we have this year that we didn't last year is a half court game. We can afford to slow it down and work the offense if the break isn't there. Let Bryan and Cacok hit the boards if we miss.
