Good god, it just keeps getting deeper
Quote:A year ago today, President Donald Trump’s newly sworn–in national security adviser, Michael Flynn, met privately in his West Wing office with FBI investigators interested in his communications with Russia's ambassador, without a lawyer or the knowledge of the president and other top White House officials, according to people familiar with the matter.
A brief phone call from the office of Andrew McCabe, the deputy FBI director, to a scheduler for Flynn on Jan. 24 set the interview in motion, according to people familiar with the matter. The scheduler was told the FBI wanted to speak with Flynn later that day, these people said, and the meeting was placed on Flynn’s schedule. The scheduler didn't ask the reason for the meeting, and the FBI didn't volunteer it, one person familiar with the matter said.
Later that day, two FBI agents arrived at the White House to speak with Flynn. A lawyer for the National Security Council typically would be informed of such a meeting and be present for it, one person familiar with the procedures said. But that didn't happen in this instance, and Flynn didn't include his own personal lawyer, two people said. He met with the two federal agents alone, according to these people.
"No one knew that any of this was happening," said another senior White House official who was there at the time.
"Apparently it was not clear to Flynn that this was about his personal conduct," another White House official said. "So he didn't think of bringing his own lawyer."

Oh, almost forgot:
Quote:And one of the two FBI agents who interviewed Flynn was Peter Strzok, whom Mueller removed from the Russia investigation last summer after the Justice Department’s inspector general's office found he'd written text messages to a colleague criticizing Trump, according to people familiar with the matter.

While I think both sides of this Russia nonsense are stupid, at least the rights version of events is interesting. The left is just crying that their corrupt candidate got exposed for the morally reprehensible piece of trash we all know she is. The right is giving me Secret Societies and grand conspiracies that are at least kinda fun.

Show me anything the guy did that was illegal or inappropriate within the actual investigation itself and then I'll care.

I'd put discussing how he and his squeeze could communicate "off line" in at least the inappropriate category. He's going to have to go before Congress again. If I were he, I'd not want to be looking at Trey Gowdy across the table.

The funny thing is, its clear the Strzok knows there is no "there" there and was simply hoping that a surprise ambush on Flynn with no lawyer present might get him to unwittingly say or do something that could open up a potential new avenue of attack. As I said before, many of the FBI guys assigned to the case by Mueller have had ethical issues in the past.

Former federal prosecutor, special counsel, and prominent Washington attorney Joe diGenova said the scandal at the FBI and the Department of Justice (DOJ) involves a "brazen plot" to exonerate Hillary Clinton of felony crimes involving her mishandling of classified documents, and an ongoing "false case" to "frame" President Donald Trump with a "false Russian conspiracy that never existed." The senior DOJ and FBI officials involved knew the Russian conspiracy story was fake, said diGenova, but they "plotted to ruin" Trump as a candidate "and then destroy him as a president."

I posted the thread because it was the first time I'd heard that this meeting came about and that Flynn had ZERO idea that he was even going to being interviewed as part of a criminal investigation. I'm betting he thought it was some routine courtesy call, afterall, he'd just taken up his new, important position on Trump's team.
One would think that a person would have the right to an attorney in such circumstances, but apparently not. Anyone recall the circumstances of Hillary's FBI interview?
