USF athletic director Mark Harlan said he and coach Charlie Strong's philosophy going forward is to attempt to play at least two Power Five programs — and perhaps three — annually. #USF @USFFootball @USFAthletics @TBTimes_Bulls @TB_Times
Pretty much standard across the AAC to schedule 2 P6, 1 G4, and an FCS.
3 P6 would be worth noting though.
I was gonna say it's not the norm with this year there being only 4 teams that played 2 p5s: UCF, UCONN, ECU, and Houston. But then I looked a little deeper and realized it was just a very down year.
Last year it was 7: Memphis, Houston, SMU,ECU (played 3), UCONN, UCF, USF.
Next year it will be 8: USF, ECU, Houston, SMU, Temple, Tulane, Tulsa, UCF.
Then throw in Navy playing Army, Air Force, and Notre Dame every year, that's a good schedule. So I guess on the whole, yes 2 p5s or 1 p5+BYU is becoming the overall norm.
Also next year will be a huge test for AAC, hopefully a banner year and coming out party for the conference!
