McConnel is right
He is opposed to using the "nuclear option" to pass a budget
http://thehill.com/homenews/senate/36998...get-debate

Sooner or later liberals will have a majority in both houses and if the filibuster option is taken away they will pass whatever they want and as the ACA repeal efforts have shown, once a program is adopted it is incredibly hard to get the public behind taking it away.

Agree. What goes around comes around. And it coming back around would be not worth what you gain.

And the liberals absolutely WILL use the nuclear option. They already introduced the semi-nuclear option that McConnell is using with judges.

Assuming good faith on the part of Democratic politicians is a sign of senility. Their use of the filibuster, blue slip and delaying tactics now has demonstrated their lack of good faith. McConnell needs to retire.

McConnell assumes Schumer or whoever, will exercise the same good judgment and restraint he is. Remember Dingy Harry Reid started the nuclear option for judicial appointments cause GOP was blocking the most activist Obama appointments. McConnell raised the stakes by expanding to include SCOTUS appointments. I can see dems expanding or completely ending the next time they have the White House and Senate.

The minority should have the ability to pump the brakes. If they get out of line the voters will remember.

Exactly. I would go with extending the nuclear option to clean budget bills with no substantive policy provisions.

Frankly, the Democrats will be the ones that change it. They play the game better than the Republicans and they play to win. Their best quality is they understand incrementalism--a concept that escapes a significant portion of the Republican party. For instance, a handful of all-or-nothing Republicans that prefer losing without sacrificing any of their beliefs to making some actual progress toward their stated goals are the reason we are in a shutdown today.

McConnell should be shown the door. He thinks just because as Republicans hold the high road that the Demons will too. These people are immoral, corrupt, without scruples that would use the Nuclear Option with gladness.

For instance, look at how they're holding the military hostage to their pay by electing to "help" illegal Dreamers.

What did their messiah say at one time, "Elections have consequences?" For once he was telling the truth. Do it! Press that button...because the Demons surely will if they ever hold the majority.

McConnell must go.

There is no high road. Republican leaders have failed, and Schumer is just enough of a charlatan to take advantage.

Democrats did this with judges. It has come back to bite them in the rear severely.

Republicans should have learned from this.
