The Upper Division Expansion Challenge
So I figured I'd offer my own challenge.

The premise is that the Power conferences are getting ready to create their own subdivision. They are leaving the majority of the G5 behind, but they are going to take a few with them. This subdivision will have its own champs-only playoff.

Here are the rules:

1. This upper division must consist of at least 70 schools, but no more than 80 schools.
2. The Big 12 must be completely eliminated.
3. There must be 4 conferences left in its wake, no more and no less.
4. Each addition must be somewhat reasonable given basic parameters of geography although a state being contiguous is not required.
5. The SEC and B1G are not allowed to lose schools in this scenario. The ACC and PAC are fair game.
6. The conferences do not have to be the same size.

Ok I'll try:
First, the Big 12:
ACC: west virginia
PAC: Texas, Tech, TCU, Kansas State
SEC: OK, Ok State, Kansas
Big 10: Iowa State,

Baylor doesn't make the new division.

The ACC also takes ND. This is 64 teams. Rules require 70.

G5s:
ACC: Houston, UCF (18)
Big 10: UConn (16)
PAC: SDSU, BYU (football only) (18)
SEC: USF (18)

70 teams total.

SEC:

East: Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, South Carolina

Central: Alabama, Kentucky, N.C. State, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech

West: Arkansas, L.S.U., Mississippi, Mississippi State, Missouri, Texas A&M

Big 10:

East: Duke, Maryland, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Rutgers, Virginia

Central: Indiana, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue

West: Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Wisconsin

PAC:

East: Iowa State, Kansas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, Texas Tech

North: California, Oregon, Oregon State, Stanford, Washington, Washington State

South: Arizona, Arizona State, Cal Los Angeles, Colorado, Southern Cal, Utah

AAC:

North: Boston College, Connecticut, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, West Virginia

East: Central Florida, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Miami, South Florida, Wake Forest

West: Baylor, Brigham Young, Colorado State, Houston, Kansas State, T.C.U.

That's 72 schools and all we really need in the top 72. Boise State and San Diego State might make a claim, but if the PAC won't pick them up they are too far away to fit in the new P4 conference.

Eh you could definitely swap those two in or any combo thereof and it'd work just as fine

In general, I just don’t see any “historical” power schools being left out. New power schools and last generation Big East schools seem to be the most vulnerable.

I doubt Ala or Ohio state want a system where you have to win your conf to get a shot at National title.
Prob true statement for OLK, Tex, ND, USC, and a few others as well.
