Trump chose to end DACA

Trump said Mexico would pay for the wall.

Trump chose to do tax reform instead of immigration reform.

Trump had both houses of Congress to do his bidding.

GOP members of Congress ain't popular (though Dem Congress not doing better), President isn't popular either.

This will be the first time since Carter was president for there to be a funding gap when one party controlled Congress and the White House.

Probably incumbents on both sides lose. So maybe its not all bad. House passed it. Senate may be 48-3 for Republicans, 0-49 for shutdown Democrats. Kind of hard to pin it on the Republicans when the Democrats have been slowing down everything in the Senate just because and voted unanimously for shutdown.
