RE: Sorry Rice...
That’s not what I got out of it. While Bailiff’s departure may have caused the recruit to have second thoughts, he did do a lot of conversing with his family, his coaches, and his friends before making his decision. Considering he put down family first, I think they were a major reason for his decommit. At least he was nice about it though.

His family does him a great disservice. The point is an education and UTSA (and most of the rest of us) can’t compete with a Rice degree.

^^^This^^^^. If my kid had a chance for a degree from Rice at no or little cost, he had better take it.

RE: Sorry Rice...
Win a few, lose a few. We just got a commitment from a kid who originally committed to SMU.
Rice has a reputation for being a tough school. So tough, in fact, that my high school guidance counselor recommended to my parents that I turn down my acceptance there. Luckily for me, not only did my parents ignore her, but she was wrong. I did graduate, by the skin of my teeth, but I prevailed. I've had that Rice degree on my wall for 50 years now, and have never regretted that choice.
maybe some of these advisors are like that. All I know is, I consider a choice of school to be one of the most important choices a kid can make at that age (marrying and joining the military are the others), and so if the kid feels like this is what he wants to do, I hope it all works out for him. Last thing Rice needs is kids coming who are not happy with their choice.

Nicely said. I second the heartfelt wishes for his success at UTSA. Rice has a 15% acceptance rate. By turning down this offer, he created an opening for someone else who really wants to be on South Main Street.

My boss got her undergrad degree from Rice, she is easily one of the 10 smartest accountants in our firm. Out of 5000 employees, that is no easy feat. He definitely turned down a prestigious University.

Sorry Rice...
A degree from Rice goes a long way, no argument there. I just think that maybe he wanted to try and play at the next level, and UTSA offers that opportunity more than Rice at this point in time. We have a possible top 15 draft pick in DE Marcus Davenport and that’s pretty enticing for someone that dreams in playing at the next level.

Very good point. I love the perspective. Thanks for being so humble. I wish the young man all the best. It must be a very tough decision.
