Sometimes you just need some money ? I mean, Memphis is trying to pay for an IPF.

Just curious... what’s your average revenue from a home game between tickets, parking, concessions, merchandise, etc? On tickets alone... $30 x 25,000 people is $750k? You can probably schedule anyone at home and draw 25k, no?

Maybe not. Maybe AAC should refuse to play upper echelon SEC/Big10 until they agree to play away games.

You can go into Louisville and win, going into Michigan/Bama/Auburn/etc? Almost no chance.

That wouldn't turn out well. They would just ply Sun Bekt and CUSA schools then. You have no leverage.

Like how you got to go up to the Big House and get raped like an fcs school with no return game?

We got a home and home basketball series as part of the deal (although Michigan has yet to honor it but there are rumblings that it could be next year).

It wasn't optimal, but for UC they desperately wanted to play more regional opponents OOC in both sports so they took that deal. Not to many bigger brands in the country than Michigan.

The UC/Michigan deal also originally came with a 1-1 Basketball series...which got bought out. That BB deal was the main part when the deal was inked.

Wish more schools would look for the cross-sports arrangements. A 2-1 FB deal with a home/home BB deal with UL would be a whole lot sweeter.

With usf's attendance issues, I see more of these coming. I can't believe they are building an indoor facility before an ocs. The allure of a new stadium would help them. Playing in a nfl facility which doesn't create demand for tickets doesn't work.

Jerry it never got bought out, Michigan simply hasn't fulfilled the agreement and there has been a lot of discussions behind the scenes as they are trying to avoid a contract breach. I think this series might actually take place before it is all said and done.

My thoughts exactly. 2 for 1 with L'Ville ain't that big of a deal.

But that was before strippers, prostitutes, coke, 6 figure payments to athletes, free shoes, free travel for parents, etc.

They might be worse than Miami and that is saying something.

Dang. Is USF that hard up for cash? Seems a little desperate.

If we are being honest all the AAC teams are going to have to broker more 2 for 1 deals in the future. Not just for the cash, but the playoff committee has made it clear that we are going to have a hell of an OOC schedule in order to be considered for anything. The P5 schools are becoming more and more reluctant to schedule home and homes because they have the uypper hand (which continues to get stronger each year).

RE: USF schedules 2 for 1 with Louisville...
I'm becoming less and less a fan of Harlan these days.
We go from getting home and homes against GT, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Illinois, and Syracuse to a 2-1 vs Louisville?
There's zero excuse for this one. You have a former conference rival, one that we've had great relationships with over the years (heck, they are a major reason we got into the Big East), to getting a 2-1? I'm glad we're playing them but a 2-2 or 1-1 would have been a way better deal.
Not only that, I don't care about the idea that "this is a one-off". You've shown that you're willing to go with a 2-1 against a mid-tier ACC team, you will never get home and homes against the likes of the P5 again.
The worse thing is I have a feeling that Harlan asked for this to shore up the coffers...when the first match up is six years away.
Why 2-1 against UL? Harlan was at Arizona State and UCLA, you're going to tell me we can't get home and homes against Pac-12 teams which Harlan should have great relationships with?
This isn't a power move and a move of a team that's spent 19 straight weeks in the top 25. This stinks of FAU or FIU.

For those leery of the 2-for-1 L'ville series, #USF will make some nice -- and much-needed -- coin for those trips to Kentucky. Could be upwards of $1 million total for those 2 road games. That said, do NOT look for 2-for-1 packages to be the norm in future.

$1 million for TWO road games? That's a pretty pathetic $500K per game.

The reason UCF has gone to 7 home games per year is that UCF makes about $1M per home game.

Great post, pretty much sums it up...

Only caveat might be, were the 1+1s you cite negotiated when we were in the Big East? These things get scheduled so far in advance, and the AAC is only 3 years old...

I'm sure we WANT a 1+1... if we could not get one, that's my real concern.

Wisconsin and Michigan state were negotiated while we were in the big east but the rest are all AAC era deals.

USF and UCF have historically had virtually identical attendance. Look up any 10/15/20 year attendance averages on both schools, and you'll find USF's a little better than UCF's, but both similar. These are facts.

F this. This is a major personal peeve for me.

NOBODY should have the competitive advantage of 2 or 1s, least of all the richest, most elite programs.

There is no justification whatsoever for anything other than 1:1s at any level of football, or any other sport.

And I REALLY don't care to hear "that's just the way it is". Don't accept it! If you are OK with 2:1s with anybody, do some pushups and get rid of your sunken chest!

Totally agree. If I were an AAC AD, I would never do a 2-1. Ever.

There is zero justification for it. And just "because that's how it always has been" is not a good excuse or reason.
