Those numbers look fishy to me. NCSU with $6.1 million in equipment and apparel but only $300,000 cash? FSU getting $1.4 million cash while Clemson gets $115,000? One crucial aspect of all these contracts not released is how much the apparel manufacturer pays coaches, particularly big name basketball coaches. Those payments disguise how much the schools get from the manufacturers and how richly the coaches are paid.

The fishy part isn't the $300K cash. That's pretty much in line. But how could they be spending $6 million on equipment? Their uniforms aren't that spectacular.

N.C. State will get a lot more than new alternate uniforms in its new apparel contract with adidas.

The school announced a six-year contract extension with the sneaker company to outfit its 23 sports teams on Tuesday. The deal is worth $38.7 million in uniforms, footwear, apparel and financial considerations.

RE: Details of Georgia Tech’s agreement with Adidas
I guess something else to be factored in is the number of Varsity Sports at each school. Based on GTs new deal it would seem that Adidas is giving them some serious three strip swag to wear!

Number of Varsity Sports

Wake Forest (16)
GT (17)
Miami (18)
Pittsburgh (19)
Clemson (19)
Virginia Tech (19)
FSU (21)
NC State (23)
Louisville (23)
Duke (26)
Syracuse (26)
Virginia (27)
UNC (28)
Boston College (29)

RE: Details of Georgia Tech’s agreement with Adidas
Per terms of the contract, Adidas has agreed to pay the Washington Huskies $5.275 million annually in cash, $5.58 million annually in product and $1.1 million annually for marketing. GT's deal with Adidas is to pay 200,000 annually in cash, 3.05 million annually in product.

Tech's Adidas deal is a perfect example of waiting too long to do something and losing all leverage in the process.

Bottomline for GT: Tech got screwed again by their unreasonable devotion to the Russell brand. Hopefully we are in a better position the next go around.

Russell makes very little branded apparel. What they do make is hard to find and is nearly non-existent in brick and mortar retail. Economies of scale dictate they were relatively expensive. This leads to reduced sales. Which leads to less leverage when seeking a replacement for Russell. It was yet another case of the GTAA taking the money in the here and now without carefully thinking about tomorrow.

Cuse will be shopping for a supplier next year. Nike has some work to do to keep the contract. Their strength is in footwear and that is important for basketball. We'll see if Adidas or Under Armour can make an offer to swY Cuse away. A huge exec for Under Armour is a Cuse guy.

Yup FSU sold out after the 2013 championship by switching their uniform design and logo for the 2014 season; that's why our new jerseys aren't as cool but we have more money. The entire fan base wants the old uniforms back, hell even the practice uniforms look cooler than our current uniforms. Word of advice Clemson, don't get drawn in by the Siren, keep what you got going!

RE: Details of Georgia Tech’s agreement with Adidas
What's lost in all this data is that the apparel the schools are getting isn't really worth the stated amounts. Those figures are likely based on retail prices for all the items, even if the school doesn't really need or want them. The bazillion different uniforms for football and basketball are designed to promote the apparel brand, not the school's brand. Many fans would just as soon have the traditional unis, with maybe an annual tweak to the home and away versions.

As someone pointed out, the real money is in what is paid to coaches on the side, so their true compensation is shielded from the taxpaying public.

GT's deal with Adidas is to pay 200,000 annually in "cash over the six-year contract," while the "allowance for gear" will average 2.9 million annually in product.......6 yr deal worth 18.6M or 3.11M per year
Link
https://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/Dail...-Tech.aspx

USF a G5 program just signed with Adidas...8 years, $23.6 million or $2.95 million (150,000 in cash and $2.9 million in equipment) Why an ACC P-5 team (Peach Bowl 08, Orange Bowl 09 & 14 and Georgia Tech has finished 1st or 2nd in the ACC Coastal Division six times in his 10 seasons in football, strong womens basketball, Mens Baseball ) is only worth 50K more than a G5 team is beyond me.

How GT stack up vs P-5 programs

UCLA & Under Armour: 15 years, $280 million
Ohio State & Nike: 15 years, $252 million
Texas & Nike: 15 years, $250 million
Kansas & Adidas: 14 years, $191 million
Michigan & Nike: 15 years, $173.8 million
Louisville & Adidas: 10 years, $160 million
Nebraska & Adidas: 11 years, $128 million
Washington & Adidas: 10 years, $120 million
Florida State & Nike: 10 years, $50 million
NC State & Adidas: 6 years, $38.7 million
Virginia & Nike: 10 years, $33 million

How GT stack up vs G-5 programs
Cincy & Under Armour: 10 year, $47 Million or $4.695 million per year (1 million in cash and $3.5 million equipment)
UConn & Nike: 6 years, $32.45 million or $5.4 million per year (1.5 million in cash and $3.9 million in equipment)
USF & Adidas: 8 years, $23.6 million or $2.95 million (150,000 in cash and $2.9 million in equipment)
Boise St. & Nike: 6 years, $7.65 million or $1.275 million (50,000 in cash and $1.25 million in equipment)

Also the University of Houston announced Friday a partnership that will make Jordan Brand as the new apparel provider for the men's basketball team.

USF got locked down for two more years.

USF is also a ludicrously large commuter school. They're taking the China approach like UCF: sheer numbers. The enrollment at USF is 50,000. Just the alumni base alone should be almost twice that of Georgia Tech.

Not true..... USF left UA for Adidas.... Seven months before its apparel deal with Under Armour formally ends, USF announced it has reached an eight-year partnership with Adidas that begins next summer.

What is sad is GT Adidas deal is worse then NC State and USF... USF deal is way better than GT....With Adidas, USF can earn up to $600,000 a year in bonus merchandise (for exceeding annual purchase volumes) and up to $500,000 a year in cash bonuses for the performance of its teams and coaches.

Example: The Bulls receive an extra $5,000 if women's basketball coach Jose Fernandez is named American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, an additional $50,000 if the football team finishes in the top 25, and an extra $500,000 if the football team wins a national title. The contract also states if USF becomes a member of a Power Five conference during the life of the deal, Adidas agrees to renegotiate it "to account for any proportional increase in value and/or exposure due to such membership."

Georgia Tech.... The contract will include a “look-in” after the third year for both sides to re-evaluate the market and Tech’s athletic performance. The cash “retainer fee” will increase annually by $1 million if the Jackets win a football national championship, $500,000 if they win the ACC and $250,000 if they appear in the ACC title game two years in a row. The retainer fee will be adjusted by $450,000 if the team wins nine games in a row in back-to-back seasons. The contract will be increased for performance by the men’s basketball team, as well – $500,000 for a national championship, $250,000 for an ACC championship and $125,000 for reaching the ACC championship game two years in a row. The memorandum also stipulates bonuses for championships and other accomplishments in football, men’s and women’s basketball and baseball.

GT got hosed because they had no leverage..

I long for the days of Champion, Apex 1, and the uniforms of the mid-90’s...

Maybe I’ll start a retro uniform thread one day.
