Game Week: Akron and Ohio
Well last week is history and hoping for a better week at home against two traditionally tough teams which are struggling.

The Akron lineup from last year was literally decimated by losses all over the place after Dambrot left.

This is the 2016/7 Akron roster. It has been depleted:

http://www.gozips.com/roster.aspx?roster=36&path=mbball

Big Dog and Cheatham graduated. Antino Jackson, Noah Robotham and a few others transferred. (hope I have my info correct).

Need to win both to have any chance at a decent season. Can't see us coming out of a 2-4 or 1-5 hole after starting with 4 of 6 games at home. 3-3 would be doable. I'll let the season play out before I burn Murphy at the stake, but this team needs to win the games they are supposed to win (and some that they aren't) from here on out if he wants to save his job.

Agree.

This year and it is VERY early, is that UB looks easily the best (just looking at standings).

Someone(s), singular or plural, will get on a run and have a good season, especially in the MAC West with the best team being from the East.

I don't see someone in the West with say a 13 - 5 record playing a 14 - 4 UB in the MAC finals.

I wouldn't be surprised to see UB 14 - 4 and then next best record say 12 - 6 with a number of teams 11 - 7 and 10 - 8.

Everyone plays for seeding in the MAC tourney and hope not to meet UB until the finals.

Gee, I wonder what Murphy will pull out of his bag of tricks for these games. Oh wait, he doesn't have a bag of tricks. Play the same strategy (or lack of strategy) and hope for a better result. Still waiting for the first time that he out coaches someone and doesn't win on talent alone. This team will never over-achieve with this methodology.

ESPN has EMU as an 8 point favorite.

What makes me kinda sad: I sort of don't even want to watch this game. I'm too scared we're gonna blow another game.

And I even watch the non-D1 games... I suspect others have the same feeling, especially those who are less hardcore than us on the message board.

I saw Akron play earlier this year and everyone who has seen them play should agree they are a bottom feeder MAC squad.

EMU 73
Akron 61

To lend credence to what Luckey posts. Here are the 2016/7 stats for Akron.

http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketb.../year/2017

Tonight we will not see: Big Dog Johnson, Cheatham, Antino Jackson, Robotham, etc.

Rarely does a program lose a highly successful caoch and THAT much talent and be good.

Here are the 2017/8 stats:

RE: Game Week: Akron and Ohio
BTW, I disagree with Luckey on the zone vs. man-to-man (I consider it like Army playing their offense. They live or die by it. Army has learned to win with it).

WHERE I disagree is that Murphy will not recruit a player like Max Hooper (remember him. All he would do is Kampe (lol) at the arc and shoot) who would be a defensive liability but if I saw JT4 getting double or tripled teamed, I' said, "Max, go out there and get open, If James gets doubled I told him to pass out and you shoot the damn ****ing ball. If you make the trey and they make a two, you'll win more games, than lose, for us. Do it."

http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketb...max-hooper

BTW, I'd have Bond and Hooper on the same side so Bond with his quicks covers some of the upper zone which he does any ways. Bond could easily cover for a guard who isn't quick footed.

Some major injuries for Akron. Only 1 player over 6'6 in the lineup. Yikes

I'll draw up the offensive game plan for tonight: GIVE THE BALL TO THOMPSON.

Man, got to feel for Groce when one of your players has open heart surgery.

As Frank indicated, the Akron lineup is totally depleted. Think Chad said Akron has 7 scholarship players.

Call the bookies, take EMU. This game could get ugly. We are due to pick on some team and Akron looks like that team.

Man, Vegas isn't listening to me. Line is now EMU -6.5.

After listening to the pre-game I'd make it -16.5. Lol.

Akron moves the ball better than EMU and can shoot the rock. EMU sucks bigly at offense. Don't be surprised if Akron wins.

Wish I had numbers for Nobles shooting that corner three. Has to be a pretty high percentage.

I think I'm done with the "Bond off the bench" experiment. Groce and Minnie are like the exact same type of defender, and they both gamble with no defensive discipline. So many open looks for Akron thus far. Get Timmy in.

Look at all those empty seats. Mediocrity year after year will do that. Time for something new.
