La Tech Game thread
UAB is/was a 7.5 point favorite.

Tech lost one of their top players to transfer. Jalen Harris was a starter averaging 15.3 ppg and 44.4% from 3.

They still have 3 quality guards and a 4th that chose Tech over UAB.

SO DaQuan Bracey 29.1 min, 15.3ppg, 4.9 apg, 42.6%. ACP (All Conference Player)
SR Jacobi Boykins 29.9 min, 14.7ppg, 5.3 rpg, 39.7% (from 3) ACP.
JR Derric Jean 24.4 min, 9.8ppg, 47.1% from 3.

FR Exavian Christon 15.3 min, 4.2ppg 36% from 3. (Had UAB offer)

---------
Bigs are their weakness. But they do have TWO shot blockers in 7 foot 1, 215 White and 6-7,198 Duruji.

RSJR Joniah White 18.4 MIN, 4.8 ppg, 4.6 rpg,1.5 bpg
JR Jy'lan Washington 6-9,185. 19.4 min, 5.9 ppg, 3.1 rpg , 31.3% from 3.
FR Anthony Duruji 6-7,198. 17.6 min, 5.5 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 1.4 bpg, 35% from 3.
SO Oliver Powell 6-8,230 18.5 min,6.4 ppg,3.5 rpg, .8 bpg
None of these guys play that many minutes, so its helpful to compare them to HaHa on a per 40 minutes basis.

White 10.43 pp40, 10 rp40, 3.26 bp40
Duruji 12.5 pp40, 9.09 rp40, 3.18 bp40
Washington 12.16 pp40, 5.7 rp40, 0.62 bp40
Powell 13.84 pp40, 7.57 rp40, 1.5 bp40
---
Lee 16.12 pp40, 9.47 rp40, 3.33 bp40
Coke 24.4 pp40, 13.05 rp40, 0.42 bp40

So Tech has 2 guys averaging almost as many blocks per 40 as Lee. And one of them is 6-7,198. You DON'T have to be 6-9+ to protect the rim. Also, Techs SOS is 207 versus 322 for UAB. (Sagarin)

Powel is a better blocker than Coke, he just isn't scoring or rebounding at that level yet. But he is 2 years younger. Gueye isnt anywhere near as productive as the Tech freshman. He cant rebound as well and he isnt anywhere near a shot blocker.

Comparing the 2 freshman, which would you rather have?

Gueye 11.26 pp40, 6.21 rp40, 0.38 bp40
Duruji 12.5 pp40, 9.09 rp40, 3.18 bp40

Again, Tech has played a much stronger strength of schedule which probably understates their comparative stats values.

Smallwoods minutes are too low to be meaningful. So while he may rebound well using RP40, in the real world, anyone that has seen him play knows he does not belong on the court in close games. And, I would argue, does not belong on basketball scholarship as a player. (He can be on scholarship as a manager, he just couldn't play)

Its been on 100.5. Ive been getting at 100.5 directly because the UAB website radio link hasn't worked for me in 5+ games. Black screen, no sound.

UNT is going to beat Rice at Rice. 84-77 with 13 seconds.

The last time I made a post like this 1300 students showed up at the next game so:

There are more students on the court than in the student section

In STREET CLOTHES.

That really helps. Like 4-5 points worth.

They have other guys, just not as good as him.

And then after they showed up, they talked smack about needing more/better seats

Bracey is in sweats. He can probably play but they may not need him if their freshman can score at will and we don't guard Boykins.

Their freshman PG isn't bad.

And Powell is a nice looking prospect. Looks like a Coke Jr.

If Lee is hurt to the point to where he is barely a factor, why not just sit him until he's healthy enough to make an impact?

Gueye needs to go in for the experience of being put in a game that the team is behind on the scoreboard. Why not?

Lee hurt is better than Gueye or Smallwood at full strength.
