Just for simplicity’s sake if you created a team in alabama it would have to be made up of former Alabama and Mississippi college players. Make a bunch of teams like that and you would at least have some regional affiliations. If you have a team in Birmingham whose qb played at Washington and rb at ss state, who around here really cares?

Didn't someone try that already and it not only did not come to fruition it got lambasted.

I remember it being discussed but I don't know if it ever came to fruition. It didn't seem to garner a lot of interest.

It's going to be another year or two, then crash and burn league.

Besides, "no criminal record allowed" will severely limit the available bammers.

There have been some leagues that have had area specific drafting.

I think the CBA team - the bandits had rights to a certain number of players from area schools.

You had Jim Farmer, etc. playing for them.

To be fair, B'ham has not been offered many "surefire" options. They have had successful local products undermined by faulty league decisions (Americans & Stallions), the NFL Europe (can't get more locked than that), the CFL and USFL (while playing in the spring). One wit said the WFL should have placed a team in the capitol of the Philippines so they could have the Manila Folders.

The XFL may make a successful comeback as a spring league (perhaps as a "D" league for the NFL) as well. What offers will the city get as alternatives? I would bet that an XFL team playing at the BJCC would outdraw a pro soccer team playing at UAB.

That is probably true. The 2nd/3rd tier soccer team is probably much cheaper to run though. I expect the soccer team to be successful, i don’t have high hopes for the XFL, if Birmingham even got a team.

Barker was also the QB for the Bolts, who finished 2-8. Coincidence?

Maybe he can come back for the first game and get knocked out at halftime for the fans? I’d buy a ticket just to see that.
