This is what he tweeted previously...

I am told UTEP Interim Head Coach Phil Johnson was signaling to UAB's Zack Bryant to go back to his bench after a timeout was called. No physical contact was made, hence why there will be no suspension from C-USA. #KTSMsports

The video provided does not seem to jive with that account as Bryant was already heading to the uab bench. But we can't see what occurred before that. The coach was responding to something Bryant did and while he was clearly wrong, we don't know what Bryant did before the video started. If I recall, it was when their big man hobbled to the bench hurt. Maybe someone who was there could chime in.

I don't think it rose to the level of an ejection or suspension but I didn't think Sullivan's elbow did either in the prior game.

Unless something was said, Bryant did nothing unusual before that video picks up.

But the coach is supposed to be the adult here; UTEP #2 stepped in front of him and was actually acting as the adult. Johnson had no business making physically threatening moves toward a player of either team, and should be terminated immediately for cause. Let #2 finish out the year as player-coach.

RE: UTEP Interim Head Coach, Phil Johnson has released the following statement regarding
Some times you don't give head coaches 2nd chances.

When Mike Price decided to let it roll, when Woody Hayes decided to practice his boxing skills, etc.

In these situations it is best that the coach be honest instead of lying.

In doing so at least you can say he was an honest coach while being escorted out the door.

No 59 year old man goes after a kid for no reason. Clearly, he thought our player said or did something wrong.

Really? See Woody Hayes. See Bobby Knight.

What is it about being 59 that makes them perfect? I'll eat there in a few years. Looking forward to not losing my cool and making dumb mistakes.

I merely suggested he might have been or felt provoked. Because that is more reasonable than a 35 year coaching veteran who went 1-17 in conference play one year just now losing it for no reason.

If something an 18-year-old says can turn you into a public ass, then you don't need to be in a position of public trust.

RE: UTEP Interim Head Coach, Phil Johnson has released the following statement regarding
I was there and didn’t see or hear (I’m pretty close) anything that could have provoked him and we have not heard anything come out that Scottie did or said anything. We also watched the live feed in the arena several times. No one on press row heard or saw anything. It appears that Johnson mistook his clapping to insinuate something else.

Was that the play when the UTEP big man hobbled to the bench? Did he think Scootie was clapping the injury?

Yes that play and no he wasn’t as he was clapping with our other players including players on the bench and coaches. If that guy thought that he may have bigger issues and they better make a change before he goes off.

I saw it with my own eyes.Bryant clapped animated like he always does after a good play. Johnson thought Bryant was celebrating one of his players taking a hard call that appeared worst than it turned out.
Even if Bryant was celebrating, there's no excuse for the coaches behaior

The T was justified for sure. Not an ejection or suspension.

He will be fired anyway at the end of the year.
