43 Minute Interview With Mike Aresco (01/08/2018)
https://soundcloud.com/ightsameraports/l...ike-aresco

Not a lot new in this Jan 8th interview--but one point he makes I have never heard mentioned anywhere--apparently the Big 10 has designated the AAC a "top interconference opponent" (about the 26 minute mark). Im not sure exactly what that means--but I suspect it means AAC games are being considered P5 for purposes of their OOC scheduling requirements.

Talks TV at 23:50. Still seems to think we might do something with ESPN prior to the normal negotiating window. Otherwise seems to think it will be some sort of a split network deal.

That's exactly what that means.

That article is 2+ years old, back when the Big Ten thought UConn actually had a football team. 03-lmfao j/k, j/k

Seriously, I think Aresco's interview updates the Big Ten criteria to the entire conference. At least, that's my impression.

That article is from 2015. I hope it has expanded beyond the 3 teams they mention in that article.

UCONN hasn't had a football team since 2010 so the joke's on the Big Ten.

And you're probably correct.

I remember that article. In addition to playing at Ohio State and Indiana home and home, Cincinnati also has scheduled UCLA and Nebraska home and home over the next 8 seasons. We'll take P5 any way we can get 'em. For those interested check the link below:

Correct. But I believe it's the most recent factual article that addresses this topic.

Just checked--

Looking at the schedules and the atricle HuskyU posted--at the very least---USF, Cinci, Navy, and UConn have been accepted as P5's so far by the Big 10. The statement Aresco makes me believe that has now become a blanket "ok" by the Big10 for the whole conference to count as P5 for OOC scheduling.

Agree. And that is a good thing for our conference. Keep "working the phones" Mike.

I would agree that is good for the conference. Should allow them to get some decent match ups.

yeah its good...if they accept us as P5 for scheduling, it makes it harder for them to leave out an undefeated AAC team out of the playoff discussion in the future...doesn't it?

If the Big10 does view the AAC as a Power than this will most definitely provide the AAC a much needed assist going into new tv $$$ negotiations, imo.

The key is P5 home and homes. If you can get them to play in an AAC stadium, that game becomes part of our TV package. Those games increase our media value. I would hazard to guess that the AAC alone has as many (or more) home games vs the P5 than the rest of the G5 combined.

Off the top of my head, Temple has upcoming h&h with Maryland and Rutgers. The first MD game is this year.
