Broadcast also mentioned that King had been suspended for the Bowling Green game

It was very nice seeing McAdoo and Ellison get some first half PT, because they will be needed to step up for this team to be successful. Minnie is what I would term a "gamer"!!

I hope we see more of them, regardless. Ellison had some solid minutes last night. He played in control, with a couple of assists and steals (and no TOs, I believe). Missing those two free throws was a bummer, but still a decent night.

I'd love to see Ellison and McAdoo both get 10 minutes a game, but I'll realistically settle for 5-7. Groce looks like he has locked a spot down in the rotation, but now it's time for the freshmen guards to get more consistent minutes.

My oh my, how much things can change.

Indeed. And BG and Miami are 2 - 1 while other powers, like Kent and Ohio, also struggle at 1 - 2.

Going to be a fun season.
If by fun you mean frustrating and just like the previous several seasons, than yes! It is going to be a "fun" season.

The talent disparity between CMU and EMU is much greater than 5 points. I can't believe the Chips were in position to have a chance to steal one on the road. The win goes to Elijah Minnie. Nice game by the youngster.

Side note: Chad mentioned EMU Steve on the air...he said your last name and I had a geology professor in Strong Hall with the same last name. I can't help but wonder if Steve taught at EMU...uncle? Relative?

Nope. No connection.

Actually if one wants to mention why the game was so close how about CMU's superior free throw shooting.

IF CMU had made 70% of their FTs (typical for D-I hoops), EMU wins by double digits

CMU did not stay in the game with the 3-ball or their shooting from the field.

Dear steve,
Yes, I was at the game, and have never seen any team make 25 shots on 27 attempts. That is exactly why they were able to stay in the game. Again, not saying foul shots have to be equal, but when the other team gets twice as many attempts there is something wrong with the referees. There were at least two times when Thompson was being hacked to death by three Central players and no calls by the officials. There were other cheap crap calls against Eastern, that when Central did the same thing, no call.

He still has the shortest leash on them. He brought in Ellison and McAdoo at the same time and McAdoo made a dumb mistake and he was instantly pulled and never put back in. These Freshman are not going to learn anything being sent to the bench for every mistake, coming from an educator it really pisses me off.

Never liked Murphy’s short leash nor the unevenness with which he administers it. I am not an educator but my dad used to always say “you can’t get someone to succeed by hanging over their back.”

In this case, Jackson has played two rough games in a row, yet still got 36 minutes. He is a great PG so I am NOT calling for him to be benched. But this is the situation to give some extra minutes to talented young guards. Not as a punishment to Jackson, just a little break to recollect yourself.

Yep, it's so frustrating. He's clearly coaching for his job and doesn't want to leave it in the hands of some inexperienced freshmen during MAC play.

Ellison getting 12 minutes was encouraging, and I understand that Murph probably doesn't want both in the game at the same time (Especially when it was very close all night), but that would be my guess for the short leash.

I'm with you, EagleKing. If a player is looking over his shoulder waiting to be pulled, he may be less aggressive in an attempt to avoid mistakes.

RE: GameDay: CMU
One thing I liked that Murphy did was putting Minnie in the middle of the zone when Meyer was on the bench. Thompson can't play 40 minutes a night, and most MAC teams don't have a low post stud that can score at will like Big Dog from Akron. A back line of Bond-Minnie-Groce, with Nobles and Jackson up front, will kill teams in transition and not give up too much defensively.

If Minnie gets bullied around the next time we try it, then stick one of the freshmen in there. But I think it will work more often than not when Thompson needs a breather.

I wouldn't stick a freshman in. I'd go for this guy. He's bigger than King, more experienced and can clog the middle in the Murphy zone. May have trouble running the floor, though. 03-lmfao03-lmfao

I still think Jackson is gonna be good, just a horrible night. But I agree that we can discontinue the "quick hook" for freshman making mistakes. Groce played his best game of the season by far, he was aggressive and responded to the confidence placed on him in the starting role. McAdoo and Ellison seem more concerned about making a bad play than they are about actually sparking some kind of positive offensive action.

Agree. Jackson just had a bad game last night.

Re-watched the second half.

Groce: Words which come to mind were springy and Eurostep.

He should be an excellent successor for Bond next sesson.
