If we had everyone that was supposed to b here this year we may have been there again this year. Oh well, for what might have been. Lol.
It can happen. Just look at Gonzaga or Wichita St.

Gonzaga?

They've missed the tournament twice since 1999.

Wichita State might be a little better comparison, but the Shockers, like the Zags don't play football and play in a better league than we do.

Further, I expect one time beyond the sweet sixteen, maybe even just two sweet sixteen appearances and Stans is probably gone.

Good or bad, I don't think he'll be in BG as long as Marshall has been in Wichita(11 seasons) and Marshall makes $3M+, there's zero chance he's in BG as long as Few has been in Spokane(nearly 30 years, total, nearly 20 as HC) and Few "only" makes about $1.5M, but if he was going somewhere, it would have already happened.

I'm sorry, but comparisons to Gonzaga or Wichita State are misguided at best.

I didn't read it as comparing wku to them. Just saying it can happen at a school like ours (Mtsu & wku)
Exactly. Thank u very much.

How is saying "it could happen at a school like ours" by citing Gonzaga and Wichita State, not a comparison?

They aren't like us.

At one time they were. Then they started winning and advancing deep into the tournament on a consistent basis and have now elevated their programs. There is nothing stopping any program from doing something on a similar level. I am not saying that WKU or MTSU or any other C-USA program are going to reach those heights any time soon, but it isn't impossible.

I just laid out, what I feel are, pretty good reasons that we can't.

They play in better leagues.

They don't play football(more money for BB).

They were able to hang on to their coaches.

We have about as much in common with Wichita State and Gonzaga in basketball as we do with mid tier P5s in football.

I might take offense if I got the sense you knew what you were talking about.

Wichita State's budget is ~$5M less than yours and they dont play football.

They pay Greg Marshall more than you pay your entire football and basketball staffs combined, but tell me more about how we're alike because non football playing Wichita is in a G5 football conference that also happens to be a far better basketball conference than football conference.

I will try once more. Yes they pay their coaches more I get that. The point I was trying to make is that even smaller (WKU, MTSU) budgeted schools can bring themselves to P-5 schools competitive level from from time to time. Good recruiting coaches can do that and I think can continue that by doing what WKU and presently MTSU. U have to get over that initial hump and win some pic games your not "supposed" to win and do that on a fairly consistent basis. Gonzaga and Whitchita St have always been as good as they are. After a while u get recognized nationally and u develop a brand as a place to seriously consider as a high school recruit. Every high school recruit today knows and respects Gonzaga.
So what I'm trying to is that it can b done even by us "lesser schools. Not easily but it can b done.

According to some, you were probably looking for the "MTSU offense isn't really good tonight" thread. But you're in the right thread.

No this is the thread where we didn't have Peneva and George healthy had a Murphy's Law game. You want the Marshall held MT to 63 points and beat their ass thread.

j/k gg MTSU...you better get these guys passing crisp or WKU will not be kind to you.

Middle Tenn scores 63 points, the lowest points scored against the Herd this year, Akron scored 64. Middle Tenn scored .85 points per possession and had 19 TO and the ball stolen 9 times.

Ajdin Penava def makes a difference in a game, in his return he has 17 points, 7 rebounds, 7 blocks and he altered more shots and passes. Quite simply Penava is the best big man in CUSA.

You guys played the best defense by far that ive seen yall play this year. Ive watched about 4 gsmes. Maybe you guys have turned the corner but statistically your team plaus the worst defense in the conference. Congrats on the win.

Not statistically based off points per possession. We're actually quite good. But teams we play get a lot more possessions leading to higher scores that skew unweighted defensive stats.

Depends on what stat you look at. The truth is that the only stats that hurt Marshall are the points against and rebounds. The first is skewed because of our up tempo style of play. We slowed down just a little today and you see what MT scored. The other is rebounds and that is our one weakness and we knew it would be since last year. The stat itself is not helped by the fact that we have been down players for the past month almost and finally got everyone back tonight. Results showed.

We really didn't slow down tonight, we scored 73 points and missed about 6-8 shots right at the rim. Those go in and we score 85-89, which would have been right on our avg per game. We also had 5-6 TOs trying to break the 1-3-1 by just over passing Penava or Burks on the end line. That could have been another 10-12 points possible if the ball isn't turned over.
