If what we're reading is to be believed, a leap forward to 7/8 wins is due.........regardless of the open QB competition. Plenty of other guys coming back. The D is in good shape. Up to the offensive staff to figure out that side of the ball.

ETough, don't forget special teams too. I thought Special Teams also cost us a couple games. The special teams were a disaster last year!

I believe we will improve and get at least 7 wins led by our top ranked Defense!

Agree 100%. The soccer style punts have to go! Easiest thing in the world to block.

Creighton to date has been pushing a lot of the right buttons. Area high school coaches rave about him and this article does not get written about Ron English even after a 6 win season. Proud that we have him as a coach.

It takes time to change the perception of EMU FB (Rome wasn't built in a day) but things are going in the right direction: Creighton's persona and outreach, more FB wins, and the new building are all signs of things going in the right direction.

All of these work in concert to lead high school coaches to believe that EMU is a good place for their players.

We have been making good progress on the JUCO front showing those coaches that EMU is a good place for their players.

Locally, we faced some strong headwinds from winning programs like Toledo, WMU, CMU, etc. but that is changing.

Agree, hopefully the QB situation figures itself out, and we're able to take that next step forward as a program this year. Feels possible.

E'Tough:

Agree 100% on the quarterbacking. It could be very good or very mediocre.

One would normally expect that after replacing a multi-year starter that there could be a significant fall off.

Yet with Wiegers and Grissom we have POTENTIALLY two very good QBs, with contrasting styles and abilities.

The "Sunshine Steve" scenario is that Wiegers turns out to be a very good MAC QB and that Grissom shows a lot as a dual threat. I would guess both have high ceilings.

IF that happens, we just could get a LOT of production out of the QB position and that is the recipe to contend.

If I were a DC I would not want to develop game plans to defend two very capable, but very different QBs.

And two very unproven ones IF they win the starting job

I don't consider Wiegers unproven, despite his lack of game experience.

Remember he isn't a scout teamer like some of the B1G transfers we've gotten in the past. I do NOT consider him comparable to Bolden.

He was a legitimate contender for the starting position, losing out to future NFL QBs and HOW MANY SPRING BALLS has he done compared to others on the roster.

I would describe him as follows: "From all reports I've read, Tyler seems to be a high ceiling, high character QB who has abundant experience at the highest level but lacks game experience because as the #2 QB he did not get the playing time to show his abilities. With playing time he would have every opportunity to blossom and be a very good QB at the P5 level."

After reading ETough's "Feels Possible" to have a 7 win season i got a "good jolt" of enthusiasm heading into next season. CC is definitely slowly but surely gaining traction in having EMU be a landing spot for "good" Football players and giving most EMU fans, students and Alumni Confidence that the Football team/program is heading in the right direction. Many people thought that EMU could not be taken seriously for football. Many of us (myself included) have a feeling that this season we will win at least 7 games and it's been a long time since I've had that feeling in back to back seasons.

I'll give you my updated 'feelings' once we have some QB and OC feedback after Spring ball. A majority of the teams in the MAC are a QB away from being a contender.

Maybe the ad and regents are hoping success in football equals more revenue $ that can be spread around to other programs

When is that first shovel going in the ground? Is there a firm date? Maybe I missed it.

Again what a class act Coach Creighton is and we're lucky to have him. Here's his past humanitarian work over seas while coaching Drake. Saw this on Twitter and thought I would share....

I know I've brought it up in another thread but it bears repeating - Creighton is 2 wins away from passing Genyk on the all time list and 6 wins away from passing Rasnick. He passes Rasnick and he's 5th all time for the program.

We certainly a storied program.
