absolutely. Kuddos on the halftime adjustments.

While i'm happy we are competing, i'm sad that this group(the board) now seems content with morale victories.

I like that Jackie Manuel went to put his arm around and speak to Gary after that last possession. A learning opportunity for the freshman.

It's not moral victories, it's surviving bleak season. Got to give McGrath time to rebuild. And I'm not going to explain why again.

I just love that the team is not giving up! Seasons not over. The CAA seems wide open this year. We have shown that we can hang with Elon and CofC on the road.

RE: Charleston
Need to face some facts.

#1 - No, this team is nowhere as good as last year.
#2 - No, this team should not have a record this bad
#3 - McGrath waited way too long this season to start playing zone and PRESSING. Since he implemented both, this team is playing much better overall.
#4 - Had we kept playing man to man defense exclusively, we would have one win in the CAA right now along with more blowout losses.
#5 - If we will continue to press and play zone, we will be a tough out by the tournament since we will be even better at both.

I don't drink koolaid. I believe in giving a new coach time. Especially one that walked in late to a depleted roster. If you think throwing that poison on the sores fixes things, then have at it.

I didn't expect to win the CAA but i feel like this roster is better than it's record. it's been a decent 3 game stretch even though we are 1-2. onto the next one.

Guys are now starting to feel more comfortable in their roles. Taylor now is more comfortable and is obviously gifted. Fornes has improved greatly too. Both of them are back for 2 more years! They've improved a lot and can compete with good teams on the road. At the first of the year, it was blow out city. And, this was not a fluke at all. Cacok is very good, Taylor is very talented as is Fornes and Talley. They just have to play together and get help from Bryan, Kalina and the freshmen.

1. Nobody disputes that. That's actually much of our posn (those of us that have supported McGrath since he arrived and maintain that fans should stay the course).

2. Even if our record was reversed at 14-5, it doesn't much matter because a team has to win the CAAT to get to the big dance. We've shown in three straight games that we can compete with the conference favorites... and on the road. Let's see what happens when we get to a neutral court, with more experience.

3. He's 19 games into his HC career. He's not going to figure everything out in his first season, first 19 games, or first 5 games. Hell, it took UNCG's coach (discussed previously on these boards) 5+ years to change his style.

4. Speculation, but I don't necessarily disagree.

5. You're dayum right!

Brantley was sick with the flu for most of the week. There were doubts he could play up to warmups. There was a flu bug going around the team.

Great game though. UNCW is better than the record indicates. You guys will win at least 1-2 games from some of the top teams in Trask.

I'm not into moral victories either, but most on here just wanted to see improvement. The strides that we've made since conference play began are significant and should give us all some hope in the direction of the program. To your point, Taylor and Fornes have really improved this season, and Cacok probably had his best game of the season tonight. That's a pretty good core, along with Talley, and most certainly can create buzz in March.

Looking ahead, the core that we're establishing this year should pay dividends, and Estime seems to be a talented player. It's not uncommon to adjust to the style and pace and D1 basketball as a freshman. Plus, they'll all have another year of experience with this staff and their expectations. There are no guarantees, and we need to round out our roster next year strategically and intentionally in terms of filling needs. We're not as consistent this year, and we're losing close games (now), but we've shown that we're not that far from competing at a high level in the CAA.

RE: Charleston
I was wondering what was up with Brantley because he's usually very tough. He missed some that he normally makes so that has to be factored in tonight. UNCW still played well in the 2nd half. Cougars have some depth and much more experience. They made shots when they needed to so hats off. They weren't clicking when I tuned in, but they must have been in the first half. You can't give up that many points in one half. I saw that Cacok had 2 fouls so he must have been sitting down some which hurts UNCW most of the time when he's not in there.

Hawks needed one more guy tonight to step up in the first half. Once we start getting that more often and play better D for 40 minutes, the Hawks can give anybody a tight game which is all that can be asked this year with so few players.

The record isn't indicative of the team's play as of late. They're a much better team than before which is a good sign moving forward. They certainly play better in the 2nd half of games which is an indicator of heart and talent that is shining through. I'm happy to see improvement.

Really liked what McGrath had to say in his Post Game Presser. It might just be me, but I think he's grown significantly as a coach throughout the year. He's really pressuring guys to take responsibility and play with pride. I didn't hear much of that in the beginning of the season. It was more, "we need to get better defensively, we're not making plays, etc...." Maybe it's the accumulating losses, but this team could've easily given up a couple of weeks ago and they've continued to play hard with some gutsy performances. I think McGrath and his staff deserve some credit for that.

they have definitely shown more the last few games and coach has certainly shown a better ability to adjust. That's positive for sure.

We are getting better and will be a tough out in March. That is really all that matters at this point. Best case scenario is a 6 seed to avoid Saturday playin
