"The Future of Georgia Southern is in Savannah"

"That would spell doom for the City of Statesboro. In any rate, Georgia Southern will look and feel radically different in 5-10 years."

I will say that for the College of Nursing and College of Education, it is not a bad idea to be closer to a population center considering students already have to travel on location for school and hospitals for field work.

Back when we had GTREP students would drive to Savannah for those classes, so this is not a new thing. Several fraternity brothers would spend a few days a week in Savannah.

I know that the Flagship campus will always be Statesboro but I think the rate of growth of the Statesboro Campus will definitely slow as more opportunities become available in Savannah. Statesboro is also trying to grow and add industry and infrastructure to the downtown area and that could be put in jeopardy if Georgia Southern sees a decrease in attendance in Statesboro.

Ehhh.. not really.

Just imagine if you could lure even just 1/3 of these new students to games.

I'm sure y'all excited about this move and it appears to be a new trend. NC has discussed merging a number of universities. While it does consolidate and stabilize, are there any fears that it will give the perception of GS being a commuter school?

Not significantly. Transportation is provided for Savannah Students to attend all the home games and they did actually fill those busses up this past season but we’re talking maybe 150 students max.

I don’t believe so. I actually think this move was made to decrease the need for commuting between the two schools. We had a lot of joint programs already and a lot of Georgia Southern students already commute from Savannah daily. Armstrong has brand new dorms on their campus now too and students from Florida, SC, and Tennessee have been granted in state tuition if they live on the Savannah campus. Georgia Southern will continue to be a traditional university.

We're still 5th in enrollment in the state. GT now has over 28k.

I don't see this as big of a wholesale change as you seem to. Also, Savannah, while lovely, is a tiny city.

It’s not in the historic district or anything but that area of Abercorn is still considered downtown.

No it isn’t. It isn’t even midtown. Armstrong is located in what is referred to as southside Savannah.

not sure where Armstrong is but the Savannah Historic District is a pretty cool college scene. I saw SCAD students out and about everywhere
