Who are all the entities who we are expecting to pony up with the $$ for the new stadium? We know the JeffCo Commission is in for $30 over 30 years, but that's just a drop in the bucket for the whole price tag of the planned complex. Are we assuming the city is in for the rest, or are there others who would be a part of the investment?

City's portion is reportedly going to be $90M over 30 years. I assume the rest is made up of the BJCC, corporate sponsorships, and UAB's long-term lease. It'll be interesting to see which company pays for the naming rights.

The only non-revenue money is from the city, the county, and the BJCC. The bulk of the money comes from the BJCC and lodging taxes dedicated to the BJCC. The rest (lease income, event income, naming rights, etc) would be operational revenue funneled through the BJCC

You rang? 04-cheers

This will be interesting to see play out in the Bham/JeffCo dysfunctional arena. The effects of Jim Crow live on in the local government and will outlast our children, unfortunately.

And BandDad--you're right about the 1901 Alabama Constitution. I did a research paper on it in school and the level of stupid in that document is mind-blowing. Here in ATX, I pay 5x the property tax, but our city has nice things.

Every state is like every store in that it crafts its revenue producing "goods" in a system that seems to fit its priorities and needs. Some have income taxes and some don't (TX, TN and some others), some have heavy sales taxes and some don't (some who do exclude food and prescription drugs, Alabama doesn't), many have state property taxes - Alabama doesn't (some cities - like Mountain Brook - and some counties have modest local property taxes).

Alabama starts collecting state income taxes at about $12,000 while some states don't collect any until "poverty level"($23,000) is reached. According to a NEWS article, a poverty level family in Alabama pays about $500 more annually in state taxes than they would in GA or MS.

Basically, Alabama crafts its tax system to hit the bottom 60% hardest and its top 10% lightest. (A recent study showed that the upper 10% paid 3% of annual income in state taxes while the bottom 60% paid over 10% of annual income in state taxes-- a difference of about 300%.) Alabama politicians have always taken a NO TAX pledge - particularly for those "top 10%ers" they have always given a relatively free ride through exemptions or waivers if taxed at all.

Red Diamond Tea, and or Hyndaui Motors would be cool' One on the south endzone and one in the North Endzone get a two for one and then top it out with The Fish Market and all the companies and investors.

The bigger problem is our newly elected Obama in the city will not go for this nor will the city council.

This will become more & more apparent so you can direct all of your complaining to the new prince of bel Birmingham.

When the voters of B'ham chose a "weak Mayor - strong Council" form of government in 1962, almost none of you were alive or of voting age (21 at that time). That is what we chose then, and what we still have. We are hearing / reading complaints about the B'ham Mayor not having the decision making powers we see in mayors of other cities. Take your complaints to the Council which controls the city's pursestrings. The Mayor cannot promise or spend a dime of city funds on his own (regardless of race).

Sounds as if the decision has been made to move forward, Announced it on Wjox not going to cite what was heard though.
