If we can’t get a conference champ an auto bid or even get in if we’re undefeated then the national championship/playoffs are rigged. 2 teams from the same conference? One of them didn’t even win their division in the conference?!

Many people are boycotting it and I’m asking you to spread the word and help it go viral. I’m not watching any rigged ESPN playoff games/faux national championships until they fix this nonsense. The G5 conferences should be raising lawsuits over this.

You have fun not watching then.

Btw, what two teams are better than Georgia and Alabama?

I think it is going to be an awesome game.

Hopefully the efforts of the UCF Athletic Director will produce a more equitable result for our conferences. I feel Troy did not get any respect by the CFP this year...Sun Belt way stronger in football than many realize, and that's with limited resources.

Central Florida got hurt by the fact their game with Georgia Tech got cancelled.

But their strength of schedule was poor and they don't deserve to be in the playoff.

Now, before any of you start the "G5 will never get in," remember a few years ago. Houston had it right in front of them. They had already beaten Oklahoma and Louisville and were on their way to the playoff....then crapped the bed the last two weeks.

You can't see UCF beat Auburn and all of a sudden get smart (referring to some tv goons).

I'm sorry, but you cannot tell me that UCF was a better team than any of the teams that made the top 4. Hell, even if you swapped OSU and Alabama, it still wouldn't matter.

They are only the best teams in the first place because the best players don’t want to play for a school that has 0.0% chance of playing for a national championship.

Every other division of college football has a real playoff not this 4 team nonsense.

UCF would not beat Auburn in a playoff setting. It's a statistical fact that teams play much worse after losing games that mean something. You can say that's an excuse, and as for the Peach Bowl itself, you'd probably be right. Zero chance Auburn's players prepare the same way for a playoff game as they would vs a G5 opponent in what they probably think is a meaningless bowl (even though it is not). It's just human nature. UCF is really, really good, but probably not Top 4 good.

These were 4 of the best 5 teams. It's not perfect, but it's better than it was.

I'd like to see each P5 conference champ, one additional P5 team, and two G5 teams in an 8 team playoff.

I'm boycotting it, ie not watching, but not due to any particular political machinations, I just don't care to watch. The overhyping of the Saban/Smart master/student storyline will be vomit-inducing enough to make me want to avoid it, but throw in the fact that the 2 teams are mirror images of each other, it will likely be a boring ass game. Who remembers the Alabama/LSU game, wasn't it like 13-9 or something and as exciting as watching paint dry?

UCF has a great team. I think it would be an interesting matchup against one of the CFP teams in the very least.

He has a point about Houston too. They had made it all the to #6 in the AP Poll by Week 2... had they gone undefeated with wins over Oklahoma, Louisville, Navy, Memphis, and Tulsa... they would've been in the CFP no doubt.

I wonder if after all the "Power 6" chest beating Aresco has done if he'll now ask any of the other G5 commissioners to protest with him.

I'd tell him to pound sand until he admits a real Power conference wouldn't have a 2-10 record against the lower 4 G5 leagues.

This is so dumb ... and UCF's argument of beating Auburn which beat Georgia and Alabama is just as dumb. Transitive property doesn't work in college football. If UCF is declaring themselves national champions, they and the AAC should and must decline the money they would receive from the CFP. They signed up and are benefiting from the CFP financially and if they don't want to play by their rules, they shouldn't take the money from it.

No matter how good UCF is this SOS gave the committee all the justification they needed/wanted to keep the Knights out. Even playing GT wouldn't have been enough since their AAC schedule featured too many teams with average to bad records this year.

Had Houston gone undefeated with 5 top 25 wins and still been left out then everyone would easily be able to say the system is flawed/corrupt.

Wouldn’t have mattered. The committee is emphasizing SOS for a reason. It automatically eleiminates all the G5. It doesn’t matte4 who a G5 plays in OOC. You will still be stuck with 8 G5 teams for a conference schedule. The UH SOS in 2015 was something like 70th—and that was after playing two top 5 power conference teams (which is almost never going to happen for a G5).

Even if UH had won out, they would have bumped them citing SOS. As long as the committee is made up of 13 P5 representatives, no G5 will get in. It’s just common sense. I’m probably not going to watch the National Championship game. I’m not really making a statement or anything and It may or may not be a good game. I just don’t really care who wins—not to mention it feels tainted—almost like wresting or boxing. Now that I am sure the G5 teams are not part of the CFP process, Its no more interesting to me than the Canadian Grey Cup or MLS Soccer.

Beating 1 team (a very good team at that) in a bowl game does not equate to playing a 10-11 game SEC / ACC schedule. No way they finish with the record they did. I'm watching. It ought be a great game.

That's impossible to say. Logic says you are correct, but there is no way to know that for sure, because they never have the chance to play that schedule.

I am not one those that thinks UCF should have been in over any of the 4 teams chosen (or even the next couple left out), but I think the CFP committee needs to give serious consideration to changing the playoffs to make it a little more fair. FBS football is the only college sport that gives the smaller schools zero chance at a National Title. In baseball, if you're good enough, you have a shot (ask Coastal). Basketball, softball, tennis, golf, and every other sport is the exact same way. FBS football selects only 4 teams...with varying criteria year to year, and calls those the best.

Of course I understand that you'll never make everyone happy. If you pick 8, #9 will be pissed. If you make it 16, #17 won't be happy. I would love to see an 8 team playoff that selects the 5 P5 conference winners, top G5 program (there is usually little doubt about who this team is), and the top two teams that didn't fall into those categories. While that still has it's weaknesses, it's better than the current setup IMO.

16 teams football playoff (all games would be bowl games). P5 and G5 champs receive auto bids. 6 at-large teams according to the SOS and record. Reduced the number of regular season games to 10 (2 OOC, 8 conference games). boom! done.
