UCF deserves to be in playoff to compete for NC. They took care of business while other Universities failed.

Where do you draw the line? yes they went undefeated, but Austin Peay, FIU and Maryland are not the schedule of champions.

That's impossible to say. Logic says you are correct, but there is no way to know that for sure, because they never have the chance to play that schedule.

I am not one those that thinks UCF should have been in over any of the 4 teams chosen (or even the next couple left out), but I think the CFP committee needs to give serious consideration to changing the playoffs to make it a little more fair. FBS football is the only college sport that gives the smaller schools zero chance at a National Title. In baseball, if you're good enough, you have a shot (ask Coastal). Basketball, softball, tennis, golf, and every other sport is the exact same way. FBS football selects only 4 teams...with varying criteria year to year, and calls those the best.

Of course I understand that you'll never make everyone happy. If you pick 8, #9 will be pissed. If you make it 16, #17 won't be happy. I would love to see an 8 team playoff that selects the 5 P5 conference winners, top G5 program (there is usually little doubt about who this team is), and the top two teams that didn't fall into those categories. While that still has it's weaknesses, it's better than the current setup IMO.
While you can argue there's no definitive way to say UCF would not have gone undefeated since they didn't play a SEC schedule, common sense tells you otherwise.

UCF didn’t deserve to be in a 4 team playoff. Plain and simple.

Is the system flawed? Yeah. It should be an 8 team playoff and UCF should and would have had a shot there.

But in a 4 team playoff format, no. They played a bunch of nobodies and went undefeated. Going undefeated at any level is an achievement, but it doesn’t mean they are one of the 4 best teams in the country.

Everything else is hypothetical noise. Their SOS blew ass, just like the rest of us in the G5. I have no idea how they would have done in a P5 conference, but it doesn’t matter. They didn’t play in one.

UCF, congrats on an incredible season. I hope it pays dividends for you down the road.

The two best teams in the country are playing Monday, January 8th.

Oh I agree, but common sense also said Coastal doesn't win a National Championship in baseball. Again, I'm not arguing for UCF to replace any of the 4 chosen, just that they (and any deserving G5) deserved an opportunity.....even if the odds were stacked against them. Just because they can't get into a bigger conference doesn't mean they should never get the opportunity to play for all the marbles.

That's not the argument that I (or most others) am making. I don't like the 4 team playoff. I want every team in FBS to have the OPPURTUNITY to play for a National Championship. If they have to be an 8 seed and play the best team in America to get to that game, so be it. I just think they deserve a shot.

I don’t disagree with you.

I’ll be honest though, I don’t think an 8 team field solves it. Say we get a year with 2 undefeated G5 teams...who gets the bid? Does the one that didn’t deserve a shot now? Personally I think 16 is too many.

This is totally hypocritical for me to say as an App fan, but the truth is there are too many FBS teams.

Short of us basically turning NCAAFB into an FA Cup format, it’s never going to be equitable. Which, i might add, would be a pretty fun format.

You can say that's an excuse, and as for the Peach Bowl itself, you'd probably be right. Zero chance Auburn's players prepare the same way for a playoff game as they would vs a G5 opponent in what they probably think is a meaningless bowl (even though it is not). It's just human nature. UCF is really, really good, but probably not Top 4 good.

Did you say the same thing after Troy beat LSU this year?

Yes. When have I not?

I honestly don't know, do you have a link when you said LSU didn't prepare for Troy?

In general, and I've said this before, P5 teams don't prepare for us the same way they prepare for conference games. The LSU win was great for Troy, but they were without DG and a couple of other starters. With Florida up next I don't think Troy was on their radar very much. We beat #25 LSU, not the current #16 LSU that is probably considerably better. Does anyone believe Troy would have ended an SEC season the way LSU did? I don't think we would have beaten the teams LSU did after losing to us.

Generally speaking, teams have come out flat after losing a big game that meant something. I can't believe that Auburn would prepare for UCF with anywhere near the same intensity as if they were in the playoff vs Oklahoma or Clemson.

RE: #BoycottCFBPlayoff
I dislike the 4 team playoffs as much as I did the BCS and the poll era, all are too subjective for my liking. If its good enough for every other level of NCAA football, every other NCAA sport, high schools, and the pros, than auto bids for all conference champs is good enough for FBS.

I would propose a 12 team playoff (10 autobids, 2 "wildcards") utilizing a play-in round and a double bye for the top teams.

You can not compare any other sport to football. There are 5 times as many people (including staff) to deal with and move around. You can't play multiple games a week much less on the same weekend. Then there's the cost for a fan to follow his team. SEC reg season ticket prices are $300 (non premium seats) with a $275 donation . Ticket prices for the SEC championship game averaged $350. Suger Bowl tickets averaged $300 & Rose Bowl $400. Add another round then the championship game of $1400. So for 2 people for the whole ride (assuming you get the tickets) you're in for around $5000 not including travel & food. That's a tad more than what it cost for the FCS playoffs.
