1. Career Record 44-24 (.647 winning pct), (before you go saying it is the MAC, exactly, he is getting MAC talent and winning)
2. I believe he has a winning record in the Big 10 with historic wins at Nebraska and at Northwestern.
3. Great Recruiter (last 2 years have been really good classes). Cleaned up with Chicago talent and has gotten some alot 3 star players including an ALL American.
Is it possible that the "NEW coach" could be worse? I can see this as Mark Trestman replaces Lovie Smith situation.
Lovie was run out of town when he got us to a Super Bowl and playoffs year in and year out (Bear fans how does that sound right about now?). Only to be replaced by Mark Trestman (who went on to destroy the team)
That being said, I see Carey's short comings like not winning a Bowl or being smug with the media. But reading the board you would thing he was Jim Tomsula , Mark Trestman and Hue Jackson combined in one. Just something to think about.
Well said/written JK Huskie... having been a freshman when we were going through the longest losing streak in the nation, perspective is always useful. I remember going to close but heart wrenching loses at Iowa in 1999 and the Illness in 2001 ... seeing we were competitive but not quite there... and of course, watching the refs steal one from us at Wisconsin at 2002 where NIU WAS the better team..
If I could humbly summarize, I think what we want as a fanbase is for Carey to be more nimble..more flexible in his approach when it comes to opponents.... including in game.... again given my age and experience watching Huskie football, wins against Iowa, NW, Purdue, and Nebraska out of the Big Ten (down years or not) was something I didn't think I'd ever see in my life time.... so how do we balance that appreciation with a hunger for more?
The 2015 Ohio State game is still burned into my memory.... up 10-3 and 10-10 at the half, there wasn't a sense the offense was going for the jugular... THAT is what I think we as fans want to see.... play calling that says "hey..we're in this and caution be damned..let's get this"...
On the other hand, I will say this... in my 20 years of watching Huskie football, the players are NOT intimidated.... for me, I almost tear up watching this.. because it epitomizes the "hard way"..it epitomizes how far the team has truly come... even in the excitement of winning at Nebraska, it felt less like "surprise" and more a solid win on the road, in front of 90k, for an opponent so cocky as to pay you $900,000 to come visit.. you can't make that stuff up...
I'll be attending at Iowa, home vs Utah and on the road if possible at FSU this year and while I'm not looking for reckless risk taking, pushing on the gas when the opportunity presents, riding hot hands if things are working (see Huff running at SDSU this year), that's all we want to see...
To a great 2018 Huskies!
