And the comments about the Cotton Bowl lead me to think the author did not watch the game. Of course Wisconsin was better, but the close final score accurately reflects the game and the differential between the two teams.

Had it not been for a previously unknown Badger tight end having a career day and making some "Are You Kidding Me?" catches/"interceptions," WMU could have easily won.

Of course WMU missed Terrell and Davis in 2017. That falls into the "No Sh*t Sherlock" category. Of course there was a leadership transition with an entirely new coaching staff. Hic-ups were expected, but some of the full-scale "barf-out" was not and should not have been. The talent was there to beat CMU and Akron as well as for the offense to score 14 points on Michigan State.

And those who did not expect Fleck to leave after the season were naive. His stock would not be higher and probably never will be again. While I don't appreciate how he left, I can't blame him for leaving when he did. The last WMU coach to win a MAC Championship hung around, only to get fired several years later. Make the big $ while you can.

Excellent post. Agree with every point. What made you finally come around? Seemed as if we were at odds with each other earlier in the season about some of this.

TJ Watt said WMU's 2016 OL was one of the best he had played against for whats it's worth. Big stage at Cotton Bowl for a G5 school to overcome. i think it took WMU several plays to before the jitters wore off. We sat at the the 20 a few rows up, by the second half the Broncos were hitting hard and looked like they belonged on the same field.

2018. I think this teams makes leaps and bounds. Won't be too many Cotton Bowl players on the roster, the Fleck era will have fully worn off. This is Lesters team now. I think Wassink makes big strides, the WR core should make major leaps they got many reps as FR/SO (when they weren't injuried). We'll have a very good defense and the OL looks big and solid. Even with all the injuires a few more caught passes and one less critical fumble would have resulted in a much different season.

I hope you’re right in that we make positive steps in 2018. That 2017 defense though which returned a great deal of talent really struggled as a unit. Yes the lack of offense had an affect but jezz!
