Future Bowl Games
I have to admit, I'm still reveling in last years Cotton Bowl bid -- I actually purchased a couple more clearance Cotton Bowl shirts for my wife and son. As I watch bowl game after bowl game, I wondered where I would like our next bowl bid assuming we are fortunate enough get one. I realize there are 5 bowl bids the MAC is locked into but there are often times we can we fill bowl bids that are open due to records from the power five.

As far as MAC bowls, I would love to see us in the Boca Raton Bowl. However, I don't like the fact that it's prior to Christmas day. If we could get a post Christmas bowl game I would love to see WMU out west -- either in Arizona or California. Florida would be great as well.

The closest thing we could get to the Rose Bowl would be the Holiday Bowl -- which the Spartans are playing in now. This would be my #1 choice outside of the top tier bowl games. They have a great parade and it's in between Christmas and New Years. I believe the Big 10 and Pac 12 have this locked in -- but it would be a dream scenario. The now defunct Poinsettia Bowl was probably are only shot at San Diego, but it's nice to dream.

I went to the QuickLane bowl at Ford Field this year. Awful. There was nothing going on.

It would be very cool to go to most any other bowl game. I'm confident we will find ourselves in one again soon.

Doesn't help that it was two totally disinterested fanbases the day after Christmas. We'd travel respectably for that one at least. Not 2016 MACC good, but much better than NIU/duke

Very true. A lot of disinterested fans. Didn't help that NIU had a disinterested coach on the sidelines, too.

I'm confident that WMU alumni/fans would have filled Ford Field had we received a bid. However, the entire Cotton Bowl experience was absolutely amazing. I was a bit disappointed that there wasn't a Cotton Bowl parade but the battle of the bands made up for it -- an unforgettable experience. The Gaylord Texan was amazing as well.

Boca Raton Bowl was 6 days(Tuesday the 19th) before Christmas. Plenty of time to beat Santa back to the house. Lots of stuff to do in the area:beaches, golf, fishing, boating, surfing, diving, college and pro sports, theater, art museums, etc. Great restaurants, bars, shopping, and lodgings. The venue is a nice facility, right off I-95, seats 30,000, has great lighting and video board systems, all chairback seating, a great party deck, and really decent food concessions. There are pep rallies, game luncheons, etc. Fan Fest, which starts about 4 hours to the game, features corporate sponsored stuff like rock climbing walls, zip lines, games, give aways, live music, and lots of food vendors. CUSA, the Orange Bowl Committee, ESPN., and Palm Beach County want to keep growing this Bowl game. Outside of NY6 Bowls , this has to be one of the better Bowl destinations.

Sounds great! Thanks for the information, Boca!

My concern would be dealing with the new signing day at the same time as a bowl. It's probably unavoidable with the games available to the MAC but bowl prep is probably not on the mind of the coaches the week leading up to the game.

Toledo did pretty good with it. Signed a class essentially as good as ours, though didn't look prepared to play the football game.

RE: Future Bowl Games
I’ve heard a fair amount of criticism from coaches at all levels saying the only thing they’d change about the early signing period is that it’s not early enough; most would prefer it to be in early to mid August. In December, it interferes with Bowl game prep, practices, and final exams. Just a lot going on.

It should be in August. Don't know why they don't use the basketball model. It's set up better.
