NIU wasn't even bowl eligible last year and lost to an FCS team, so they were at least 'somewhat' better this season.

Although NIU looked stronger earlier in the season. Beat Nebraska (yes I know they aren't the "usual" Nebraska) and lost by one score to bowl teams Boston College and San Diego State.

You may be right there. Ill stand corrected as far as NIU.

Akron would've still been the MAC East champ, strange as that sounds, and been guaranteed the bowl. They'd have the conference record tie-breaker over Ohio because of the head to head win.

CMU and NIU were both 8-win teams and also beat us during the season.

I thought a 7-5 team must be taken over any 6-6 team?

That used to be a rule for at-larges, but I don't think it is anymore (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

I remember Temple getting no invite at 8-4 during one of their MAC years. It was the same year we didn't get an invite at 6-6.

RE: Duke/NIU
Depends on who that seventh win would’ve been against.

We beat Akron, then maybe that changes the course of their season and Ohio wins the East?

We beat NIU, we probably get the nod to Ford Field over them?

We beat CMU, do we get an invite to the Potato Bowl?

Hard to know exactly what happens since bowls can pick based on geography, TV market, projected ticket sales (not record).

You guys were very beat up and it definitely effected your season's outcome. Hopefully
injuries won't be as big an issue for either of us in 2018.

Amen to this... Wasn't just the amount of injuries... but where they occurred... we were down to Franklin as the ONLY RB left out there... besides a kid who needed to be converted from WR to give us depth in the backfield... Franklin is a monster but you could tell he was getting worn out as the season came to an end... I can only imagine how things may have gone down the stretch if we didn't lose Wassink, Bogan and Bellamy...

RE: Duke/NIU
At least NIU was in the game, 14-14 in the 2nd, Down 12 at half to an ACC opponent.

Unlike the steamroll in Boise, where one rusty QB coming off an injury, single handedly ran up a 27-7 halftime lead, and still left another 14 on the field. Another of what seems to be an annual Bowl embarrassment.

You are a cool enough dude Boca Rocket, but I still hope Toledo has an exorbitant amount of injuries next year, and really bad luck when you play us. Good luck in your non-conference games though.

The depressing thing is that the QB who played against Nebraska and SDSU has transferred after getting benched for throwing a few interceptions.
