Like many of you, I'm happy with this new "early signing period". It doesn't really affect the top 25-type programs much, but it looks like it will help a program like Toledo compete even more in the recruiting wars with mid-to-low level P5 programs, as I'm sure there are a handful of our new recruits who would have been (or continued to have been) targeted by those schools into the February signing period.

My questions:

1) Did any of the young men who had given us a verbal commitment but then didn't sign with us yesterday, sign with anybody else?

2) How many open scholarships do we still have for the February signing period?

Don't know about scholarships available because that always seems to be a moving target. The recruiting sites like 247 say that Toledo had five commitments that didn't sign with the Rockets or anyone else. It's difficult to know what that really means. Are they having academic or other problems, did they decide to wait until February for a better offer, were they a commit but Candle pulled the scholarship?

I checked the twitter feeds for all five and there was nothing except for linebacker Jackson Barrow that seemed to indicate he was going to Boston College. Problem is that he isn't on BC's LOI list and they signed five linebackers.

Candle said they signed "most" of the guys they anticipated signing, whatever that means. Ther is still today and tomorrow, so something could happen.

Barrow's twitter still says UT commit. He retweeted a story about one of his teammates going to BC, but I don't see anything that says he's going there.

OK, a third question.

I notice that we signed two more Johnson's. That gives is four.

For a MAC team, does it seem like we are deeper than we really need to be in Johnson's?

Most are little receivers and the like. It would be nice to have some really big Johnsons. Also, most of our Johnsons are offensive. We need to address that.

is there such a thing as a defensive Johnson?
