We kept one scholarship open. Unlike Bono, who just can’t recruit, we kept it because 4 Star DT Tyrone Sampson wanted to come here. He had an “issue” on his official visit to Cuse that raised a red flag and Cuse rescinded. Then NE, Mississippi moved on. We did as well, so he’s headed to Fresno. Would have been a PR nightmare. Think Greer.

So that scholarship was still there. Now we could be like Bono, still trying to fill 2 or 3 slots for 2018 or we could take 5th year transfer with excellent measurable and proven skills. It was a no brainer. It’s not like all of our hopes rest on his shoulders. It’s not like we’re camping out at Baldwin HS begging the Childress brothers to come.

I’m not a fan of retreads, but with one scholarship set aside for just such a scenario this worked well. My guess, he’ll still have to compete for time.

You’re right about one thing, we do “recruit so well.”

I wouldn’t go that far. They’re definitely devoid of talent thanks to three years of Bono recruiting. But once they fire him they could find a coach with some personality and start getting some players.

We’re 5-3 this decade against them, obviously should be 6-2. I can’t see them winning the rest of this decade, but they could hit pay dirt after Bono’s fired.
