RE: EARLY SIGNING DAY
Looking over the 247 rankings after the second signing day, NIU slipped to #4 in the MAC behind BG. Toledo and WMU both used the second day to add to their rosters and Toledo looks to have inked a really good class which ranked ahead of a couple P5 programs. Both WMU and Toledo were able to add guys with multiple P5 offers this week while EMU and Kent also seemed to finish strong. Given that Kent was late to hire a coach and had almost no commits for the first signing day, it is certainly noteworthy that they finished just behind NIU in the latest rankings. Their class included two highly rated dual threat QBs including one that previously played at Auburn.

Seems like quite a few highly rated QBs were added across the MAC which makes NIU's inability to add one a little disappointing given the overall strength of the class. Although based on history not a complete surprise as pretty much only one highly rated QB has signed in five years under the current staff.

EARLY SIGNING DAY
The goal should be to win the MAC. To do that, a team needs a top QB. No matter who we sign, it makes little difference in the MAC without a top QB. Do we have one?

I’m hoping our young QB’s are working overtime to get better. We’re going to need them playing at a high level to win the MAC. Childers vs. Hall

I hated the decisions that Carey and his staff made last year with the QB position but at this point there is nothing to do other than to root for Childers and Hall development and success. I hope that there is someone on the staff that is capable of helping them. Based on what I saw last year I am not optimistic.

With Santa leaving there's still that spot open for a grad transfer or JUCO QB. Our staff would be blind if they didn't notice the lack of depth

What about Anthony Thompson? He seemed to be getting more snaps and has reportedly made alot of progress. Also, our incoming QB, Jyran Mitchel, looks very good.

Jyran Mitchell will play Wide Receiver. True freshman won’t see the field at QB unless there’s a disaster. We’ll find out soon about Thompson. Spring football is right around the corner. It would be a pleasant surprise if he outplays all of them.
