Setting the bar real high there....

Higher than Chip Kelly can reach :)

If I was him, I would stay there for the rest of my career. How is he ever going to do better than being 2 miles from the beach for a job while living on the beach? He's making over a mill and already has a championship. His recruiting will be off the chain this year and every year after that. If he can keep Briles there, they never have to leave. Why would they? He's already gotten a NC as a coordinator. He's coached 2 Power 5 teams. This job could be the sweetest job in CFB. It would be hard to top it.

I may not like him but FAU took the gamble and it's paying off for them.

Because he'll never build a HOF career in Boca.

You're kidding yourself if you think Lane Kiffin doesn't care about winning a national title as a HC, something that is literally impossible at any G5 program as the postseason is currently constructed.

But, you see, we're not even talking about him fulfilling his entire contract. We're talking about him staying for 2-3 years. He is not going to get an offer from a championship-caliber team before that (or maybe even a long time after), he is not going to leave FAU for the likes of Tennessee, Baylor, or Texas Tech (for example)

Not sure I completely agree with this. If he's shooting for a P5 NC he may see an intermediate P5 team as a necessary stepping stone. He's already turned FAU around and I would think he can only do so much there. He'll need to turn a P5 around and exhibit some consistency before the really big boys give him serious consideration. I do agree he'll need to keep FAU on top for a couple more seasons to demonstrate he didn't catch lightning in a bottle this year.

It's always amusing when the same posters tell us over and over how Kiffin will leave (especially mods). We all know he will leave He'll continue to beat your programs as long as he's here and then Briles will take over and keep it going. Are we seriously going to have to hear this whenever our fans are posting happy on the program ?

Does make me smile that these guys have to go with hope that he leaves because they are jealous and know their coach will never be thought of as highly to be poached

He can make FAU a consistent winner to a point that FAU can join a P5 conference. I mean that may be a motivation. Or, maybe, he has matured enough that he may be interested in finding a good home, a lifelong worry-free employment and demigod status.

Maybe an incentive for him to stay is to establish himself. At Alabama (for example) there are a lot of demanding donors and fans. Much less pressure at FAU.

Also while he may win an NC at Alabama he will only one of many successful coaches in their history. At FAU he is THE guy. If he sticks around he'll get a statue and the stadium named after him.

Taking a G5 from nothing to the highest success could cement him as an all time great coach. FAU beating Oklahoma may be a little more meaningful than another P5 team beating Oklahoma.

RE: Lane Kiffin signs a 10-year deal with FAU
FAU fans have every right to be excited and proud. They have worked hard and sat through bad seasons to get to this point. They have taken flack from some of us in this conference (myself included) but they are in fact on the rise. I would be willing to bet that Lane Kiffin and FAU got more national exposure than the rest of CUSA combined. I'm happy you all are in our conference as I truly think your success is part of the reason for us getting a new OC at Marshall. You guys and WKU have shown that we have to step our game up if we want to compete within our own division. This is good news to me.

Now we all need to start going out and winning our OOC games. I truly think its just a matter of time until this conference makes some noise in football. Next years FAU team might be the ones to get over the hump and get that Access Bowl.

RE: Lane Kiffin signs a 10-year deal with FAU
If Kiffin stayed at Boca for 10 years, he could earn hall of fame level notoriety. Not saying he will stay for that long but he will do great things for FAU and already has. Look at Charlie Strong. He's in the catbird seat and he knows it. Kiffin is like Strong to me. They are in the speed state and can recruit with ease. 2 miles from the beach and such. Again, I don't like him but I respect what he's done and FAU is going to have to build a nicer trophy case. The P5 pressure and certain eventual failure has to not be fun. Therefore, I see a change in the G5 ranks where schools like this can retain the more seasoned coaches longer than before.

Frank Solich has been at Ohio forever and they have won forever too. Kiffin can get 4 stars to come to the beach a lot easier than Solich can get them to come up to the middle of nowhere to play.

Kiffin might leave that but I would stay in Boca as long as I could.

1) You may not be talking about him fulfilling his contract, but the person I was replying to literally said "If I was him, I would stay there for the rest of my career. " so that's what I was replying to when I said he'll never build a HOF career in Boca.

2) I do not agree that he'd only leave for a championship calibre program, I'll restate my previous point from last time you made that assertion. If he's willing to bet on himself at FAU, why wouldn't he bet on himself to be able to build a championship program out of a mid tier P5?

3) I think you're wrong that it will take 2-3 years for a quality offer to come. If you guys win double digit games again next year, serious offers could come in, especially if the buyout isn't astronomical.

No, no one in this conference is P5 bound.

The Big XII took a hard pass on the AAC membership, zero chance any of us have a shot.

FAU could go undefeated three years in a row and you still aren't getting into the playoffs as they are currently constructed and Kiffin might not last beyond one undefeated season in the first place.

1) Why is it especially amusing from mods? Mods aren't allowed opinions?

2) When have I ever said "Kiffin is leaving"? I asked about the buyout to see how serious his commitment actually was, but at no point did I say he's leaving this year, next year, or any other.

3) If Kiffin does indeed leave, there's no guarantee Briles stays, there's no guarantee he would make a good HC and if he's as good as you believe he is, he might not stay long himself, Petrino left after one year and his heir apparent who was a Western grad stayed just three years.

4) Jealousy is the fear that someone will take what you have, envy is wanting what someone else has.

Sure mods can have opinions. They are usually not the types to always be negative on certain topics like you are with Kiffin and fau. Whenever there is a positive thread on our school we can count on you and a few others to be a wet blanket in it

Cute on jealousy and envy but a lot of you guys have both And I laugh when schools hate on us now because it means you're getting beat.

As I said I'll take coaches who do well and get poached over mediocre coaches that no p5 desires to take

RE: Lane Kiffin signs a 10-year deal with FAU
When you get a good coach enjoy the ride...1, 2 ,3 years. Does not really matter just enjoy it. We vacation in Ft Lauderdale at least 12 weeks a year. So I know the draw..especially in the cold months up north.

But some of you are not really thinking when you say Kiffin has everything he could want in BOCA and shouldn't leave. A million dollars today...well really 680,000k a person can enjoy life on. Even when you have a 2.1 million dollar home that is going to take 75 to 100k of that money just on taxes, upkeep, and bills, other than mortgage.

But it doesn't set him up 20 years down the road or his family.....it's very rare that a man will turn down 4 to 5x the amount of money they are making today. Especially when you are talking 2.5 to 4 million more a year. That is life changing money for you and your family.

Boca and S. Fla will be there at any point someone wants go live there. How much free till does a coach really have? It's a 3 hour flight from KY to Ft Lauderdale. So about the same or closer for any ACC or SEC job. Any school that comes after Kiffin that can pay him 4 to 5 million a year will have boosters with private jets that will take Kiffin and his family to BOCA at a drop of a hat.

If he loses at FAU...he will get fired just like at any other school. A Kiffin might get 2 or 3 extra years of losing at FAU. So you have 12 or 13 million over 10 years or 25 million over 5 years then get fired. It doesn't take a smart person to see what is best for them and their family.

That's not jealous talking...logic. Who's coaching at FAU is the least of my football worries. Besides I really believe FAU has a youngster on staff that is the real driving force behind the FAU offense. Kiffin started the season trying to air it out and the offense we saw over the last 9 or 10 games is more like what was ran at Baylor.

Coaching matters. But that includes every coach on the staff and like Western the previous few seasons. FAU has a really good football coaching staff this year. Teaching...being able to teach is over looked by most fans. But to me its as important as any thing in college football.

I'm not sure what you're talking about me being negative on Kiffin. If anything I've been negative on FAU in general, I certainly didn't believe you guys would be so good this year, but then I believe we beat you guys if we were healthy, but that's not that important because you were still better than I expected. With that said, one great year doesn't change my opinion on Kiffin or FAU much at all, though I'm coming around on Kiffin.

But just to make a couple of things clear, MT fans have endured a fair amount more speculation about Kermit than FAU fans have about Lane so don't expect any sympathy there, and I'm not rooting against FAU or Lane, if you guys are ready to finally bring more than fertile recruiting grounds and being very occasionally good, that'd be great, because we've been conference mates for a decade and a half and it's been mostly just talk of your potential, mostly.

I get all of that but this guy coached at USC and got fired. He made a crap load of money coaching the Raiders, UT and USC. He also made a lot of money at Alabama. It's not like he was a pauper before he came to FAU although his divorce did pick his pocket quite a bit and he has alimony and child support as well. However, if he keeps winning at FAU, that money per year increases. You don't think FAU fans and boosters won't come out the pocket as he does what he can do?

I do agree that Kendal Briles is the backbone of his success. They need to worry about keeping him too.

I thought he would get poached this year and am surprised he's going into year 2 and he may get poached next year but I would stay. It's a good gig in a good place.

Cute on jealousy and envy but a lot of you guys have both And I laugh when schools hate on us now because it means you're getting beat.

As I said I'll take coaches who do well and get poached over mediocre coaches that no p5 desires to take

Don't care about your basketball coach. Never said a thing on him. I'm not negative constantly on other programs like you. I'm not a miserable person

I must have missed all those conference titles from juggernaut middle Tennessee though in football ...

Maybe just give it a rest on being annoying on every fau thread. We have a right to be happy about this season and the direction of the program. No need to be an ahole whenever it comes up in a thread as you do. Also stop the innocent act. You know what you do

1) ok. Fair point

2) Why would he go to a non-championship caliber P5? What would he get there that he doesn't at FAU? FAU can pay him. And if we can't, we have a short fundraising drive to fill it. We're in freaking Boca Raton, among the sea of money. That's how we built the stadium and how we started the program. Most P5 schools can only go to their alums. We just step outside on Glades Road and the checks will write themselves. This is not Yipsilantti we're talking about. And most P5 programs would not chill with Kiffin's eccentricities. Which is why Kiffin was available for FAU to poach.

3) Serious offer may have already come, for all we know. But, I think, FAU has him for the next 2 to 3 years. After that - I have no illusions.

There is not a P5 program in this country that couldn't at least double FAU's best offer.

You also ignore my point about building a non championship program into a championship program, again, I'm not talking about a Wake Forrest or Kansas, but you don't think Kiffin believes he could win a title at a non blue chip program?

For all the talk of the legacy he could leave in Boca if he stayed there, the same logic applies to all but a handful or so P5 programs.
