UNCW has given up 15 pts in less than 4 minutes to start the 2nd half.

RE: furman
Our offense in the 2nd half has looked atrocious. Just one on one dribbling with no movement from the other 4 guys.

Nice run with Talley and Cacok on the bench.

As frustrating as this loss there are positives to take from it. We made a comeback with Talley, Cacock and Bryan on the bench due to foul trouble. The support this team received by the crowd on a Sunday afternoon before Christmas without having won a game in a month was fantastic. This team is getting better

RE: furman
Three point shooting was the difference and I agree that our offense didn't look that good. Our freshmen looked well....like freshmen today. Fornes, Talley, Cacok and Taylor had good games today but need some help. The defense wasn't there today and Furman looked like an experienced, good team. They worked the ball around beautifully and we didn't.
Hawks have a good PG coming in that can REALLY pass the ball and can play. He's going to play from the get go. This team needs that element right now and I'm not blaming Talley on that so much because he can really score. If we're going to play this style of ball, we do need more player and ball movement.
Hawks dominated the boards but not the paint so much from what I could tell. Not enough help for the BIG 4. Hawks need to find a way to get stops. It seems weird but the Hawks seemed to get more stops using a FREAKING 2/3 zone. Players get used to shooting 3's in transition or against man so it threw them off guard a bit.

RE: furman
This team needs to remember Cacok is going to get his. We made our run with Cacok and Bryan on the bench because our guards were forced to score. They got very aggressive and started driving and looking to score. When Cacok is in the game, we try far too hard to force it to him and our guards stop trying to score. I'd rather see Cacok get his on the cleanup or dish on the drive, while our guards look to drive and hit 3's.
Also, if we aren't going to press, we have to play some zone. Fouls are becoming a huge issue in that Talley and Cacok are sitting far too much. With our lack of depth, we need those two on the floor as much as possible. I was at the game, and physically we are overmatched at guard. We were driven on and shot over throughout the game as in most games. Another team hit shots at a 56% clip and scored 90 on us.
The loss of Richmond was huge. He was getting his game back and looked really good. Estime plays hard, but he's not ready for primetime yet, but is forced to play more than he should. I'd play Powell more and let Estime work his way into the lineup.

RE: furman
Playing zone is a must at this point because we HAVE to put Talley and Cacok on the floor for the majority of a game to give ourselves a chance. Talley has ALWAYS been foul prone, and a zone would help keep his fouls down and ensure he gets enough minutes to keep us in the games. Same for Cacok.
Play a 2-3 zone and mix in man. This team needs to primarily be working out of a zone defense. That's explicitly clear at this point. We're starting to see more of it every game, it seems. So perhaps the staff is trying to make that adjustment.

That's great to hear, and something I and obviously others were/are beginning to grow concerned with. Even with the way the year is going though, I don't really foresee a steep drop off in support unless this kind of thing continues into mid-next year or beyond.
It was nice to hear a loud crowd on the broadcast, from what I saw.

It got very loud, but the team gave them something to get loud about. It was only for that final stretch when we made a run and got within 3. Fans generally get loud when the defense picks up and makes some stops, and we were making some stops...finally.

Bottom line is that we need a few more players and some of the ones we expected to take the next step up to do so. The two freshmen are learning and hopefully will be better given the fact they are being thrust prematurely into the fire. We are suffering from a double edge sword - lack of numbers and a much more difficult schedule than we imagined preseason.
Patience my fellow fans, patience.

I think you made a great point on the schedule
This is one of the more difficult non conference schedules I remember us ever having. Sure we never should have lost to ECU, but every other team we have played is very very solid.

Well the good news is none of the teams in the holiday tourney we have this week appear to be that great. Our first game against North Dakota State is 5-5 for the year. Howard is 2-10 and UTEP is 3-6.

I can't wait to celebrate our victory over Howard...

Sadly they will probably hang 85 on us.

This team just needs to win a game at this point to gain confidence.
