A Detroit sports writer indicated he made 75K / year. Not going to keep a coach at that salary.

And, of course, if he makes 75K, how much do the assistant coaches make? Not much.

Yes, I thought a head coach for Olympic sports would be starting at 90 - 100K.

Why? He doesn't generate any money for the university, they lose a ton of money and insult to injury, he doesn't win. Absolutely no buzz for the baseball program.

Bob, what you're saying, I think, indirectly is that Olympic sports are a financial burden on a cash strapped mid-major type school and they simply can't pay big bucks.

The only time baseball, etc. makes a buzz is if the team is really, really good like when a baseball team goes to the NCAA playoffs at the end of the season.

According to this $75,000 is the 80th percentile.

Correct. I don't see any upside in paying a baseball coach more than the professors unless they win big and bring attention to the university. An example of a mid-major baseball coach who should be paid big money would be Wichita State's coach. 75k is good money for EMU which doesn't even charge money for attending a game. It is basically a club sport.

There are a lot of good BB coaches in the area with college experience. I already know of one that is interested.

This will be Wetherbee's first important hire, correct? I think he's been on for the hiring of the new gymnastics coach, and maybe another new Olympic sport coach, but we'll see if he can make a splash with a good hire for baseball.

Stan Eldridge has been in the area doing well with different programs. He loves Ypsilanti and EMU.

RE: EMU Loses Baseball Coach
Not getting at least a div 1 assistant coach would be a real come down

Dear 1014emu,
Not necessarily. Whatever your thoughts of Coach Creighton, he was not a Division 1 candidate. I like the concept of going after a head coach, if possible.

I guess anything possible I hope if they can't get a div 1
guy it works out you never know but I think if it comes to that they should consider the assistant coach

I too like head coaching experience, but it didn't work last time with Jay Alexander. Neither Boss nor Van Ameyde had head coaching experience and both did alright. Maybe baseball managers are different than other sports head coaches.

Not bad. Currently coaches at Lawrence Tech.

If I’m not mistaken, he is their first head coach and was charged with building the program.
