You just want to kick NMSU in the gut and kick them again to make sure they stay on the Island of misfits. I have a much higher opinion of NMSU than you. And I don't make up straw man arguments like you do.
The WAC is not a good future for NMSU and you refuse to recognize it. Your hatred of NMSU shows up again and again. They are a program that used to go toe to toe with top 20 schools. Even JDGaucho, who is an advocate for NMSU in the Big West, is for it because like me he remembers attending those games when UNLV, UCSB, LBS and NMSU battled for as many as three NCAA bids, with UOP and Fresno State just off the pace.
That Big West is gone, but it does offer California. And were it not for the travel fee combined with not solving the football home issue, I would say that is where they should go.
NMSU needs to be in a conference with similar land grand and research schools. Not a odd mixture of junior colleges and "low church" christian privates moving up from D-II. Both the MVC and MWC (Big West too) have those types of schools. And that is where NMSU needs to be. Only a foolish AD and President would not try to get into such conferences where peer institutions are, preferably one with football.
I love the way you use the instability argument, but don't apply it to the WAC. Nice lack of integrity you have there.
LOL! Stu, you are entertaining. Here is my response to your entertaining post:
1. You said that the WAC is weak and you could prove it by taking NMSU and GCU out of the conference. Your premise is wrong. The WAC is not weak. It is currently ranked #15 in RPI, right behind the WCC. If you take Gonzaga & St. Mary's out of the WCC, it becomes weaker. The same with NMSU & GCU. That does not mean that the conference is weak at this time. You are wrong.
2. You called the WAC "the Island of misfits." This is the fifth season this group of misfits have been together and in basketball, the league has been good to NMSU. NMSU has won the WAC Tournament five of the past six seasons. The Aggies need to be in an FBS Conference, but as long as they are independent the WAC is just fine. Jumping to another one bid league to satisfy your hatred of the WAC does not really make sense.
3. You said that "NMSU needs to be in a conference with similar land grant and research schools." You used the MVC and MWC as examples. The MVC has no land grant schools and three research universities. The WAC has four research schools. The MWC would be a great place to be for NMSU, but the MWC is not looking to expand at this time. So your statement is pointless.
4. Apparently, JDGaucho didn't attend those great Big West games of the late 80's and early 90's, but since I was living here as well, I can say that it was a great conference back then. Those were the days of UNLV's juggernaut program, NMSU, UCSB and Brian Shaw. Nice to go down memory lane, but not really relevant to today's Big West Conference.
5. You "have a much higher opinion of NMSU" than me? My "hatred of NMSU shows up again and again?" Why, because you hate the WAC? For the record, I think the Sun Belt Conference should have kept NMSU for football. The western schools in the Sun Belt would have invited NMSU for all sports, including my school, Texas State. As it is, we are playing NMSU in football two of the next three years. I like the Las Cruces area. I have seen a few concerts on campus (many years ago) and I almost took a job in Las Cruces. That is why your ridiculous statements had me laughing.
Stu, you need to look into the mirror when you talk about "straw man arguments" and "lack of integrity."
