Well... we lost?

Isabell was back, had 12 points and 4 rebounds in 30 minutes. Kurk and Sammy had 15 and 11 points respectively. Based on the box score it looked like Robert Morris shot lights out in the first half and Drexel never got a run going.

RE: Robert Morris
The game sucked...let's move on..

Remember the good ole days when a scheduled game against teams from lower DI conferences like the NEC or the Atlantic Sun were guaranteed wins?

RE: Robert Morris
we went out to the game. i'm slowly getting caught up on what some of our guys can/can't do and what we're trying to get done as a program. it seems like my observations are similar to others in that I have no idea how the team I saw yesterday beat lasalle...even if lasalle isn't exactly unc or duke. the scary part is we looked like the smaller, less athletic team, and less talented team against an nec program. that's where I worry about recruiting. i kept saying to myself "i wish he was a few inches taller" or "i wish he was a step quicker". they flat out bullied out guards on the perimeter to the tune of double digit turnovers in the first half. i got tired of seeing the same tomahawk dunk on a fast break of a steal from rmu. the one guy who had at least the physical tools to match up size wise...doles...seemed out of position on the perimeter.

defensively...it seems like not coming off your man to help stop dribble penetration is part of our defense. when we do help...nobody else comes into the lane to box out so we give up second chance points. we still don't close out on shooters. "soft" is the best word i can think of to describe our defense.

i'm fine with getting blown out like that if we're building towards something. hopefully i can get to more games in the next few weeks to decide that for myself. Austin Williams is our best player in my opinion. the offense should work through him. i didn't see a guard that can put much pressure on a defense either through driving ability or shooting. we're best suited to be a team that grinds games out since we're just not as talented/physical/big/athletic as we need to be right. problem is that's not how coach spiker wants to play by all accounts.

RE: Robert Morris
I agree with utilizing Austin more on offense. I know Spiker wants to shoot the three, but this team just does not show that it's going to be able to do that consistently, so your only reliable big shouldn't only be a "role player" per KenPom. Give Spiker some credit though, he has mentioned, and the stats bear this out, that we've slowed our play to match our short-handedness. We've also cut back on the number of threes we are taking, we were around 42% of our attempts earlier in the year and we're sub 40% now. So we've seen a willingness to change approaches depending on circumstances, I consider that a positive as compared to the past. I'm concerned at how we seemingly don't get up for games you'd think we'd win.

We're almost ohfer against sub 200, needing a frantic comeback against Lafayette to grab that victory.

As far as recruiting, the jury is still out. He's found some nice players and he's gotten much more out of Austin than Bru was able to. Coletrane will bring some size to the guard position when he gets on campus next year at 6-4, Miles would help if we are ever able to get him on the court this year. Hopefully Tim Perry Jr. and James Butler settle in as replacements for Austin. Jarvis and Alihan seem a bit redundant, but that could be a good thing in terms of depth. Right now, I'm willing to go with Metsox's view prior to the Bowling Green game:
Quote:"The question that looms largest for this team as they take the floor against Bowling Green tonight isn’t what most fans think it is. It’s not about whether or not this team has any talent. This team has pieces. The question is can this jigsaw puzzle of pieces all fit together?"
http://alwaysadragon.com/pregame-bowling-green/

I'll change puzzle pieces to gears, because engineer, but the gears aren't meshing yet all the time. We've seen glimpses where it does, and it looks pretty damn good, but also a lot where it doesn't, and that's ugly and frustrating. That being said, we still have three open spots to fill next year, and it's been awful quiet on the recruiting front for even making offers. Looking at Verbal, we have three open offers to guards, but no recent activity. This is a big class as, except for Sam Green, the seniors who are leaving are the last scholarship players of the Bru Era. Starting next year, Spiker and staff stand on their own legs.

I am sure rotating injured players constantly isnt helping the teams cohesiveness either. Have we played multiple games in a row with the same players? It sure doesnt feel like it. Seems like one game we have 9 players the next we have 7, then 8, then 7 and its never the same 7 or 8.

RE: Robert Morris
Yeah, the injuries are definitely not helping finding a playing/substitution rythym. Kurk is now #1 in the country in terms of %Min played according to KenPom at 96.5%, Sammy is 23rd at 91.6%. We've also been soft on D for years now, bottom 200 in Bru's last 2 seasons and, so far, Spiker's first 2 seasons. Although, this team is hovering around being his best defensive efficiency rated group, but has played a tougher set of games than his Army squad did in doing so. There has been progress.
