We did it in 2016, that is what you should do in a state like GA and being within 40 miles of some of the best talent in the country like GaSt is. Most kids like to stay somewhat local and got to schools with former teammates, classmates and where their families can come watch games with relative ease.

Elliot is doing what Trent Miles should have been doing in diving head first into local and state talent at his finger tips instead of scouring the transfer and juco ranks so heavily. I hope this is an eye opener and reality check for the GS fan base and where our expectations should be. Congrats to GSU best year by far for the program in every way.

Happens more than you think.
JaKyle Holmes last year was committed to Minnesota and Arizona State.
Straughter had Tennessee offer.
Several guys had USM and Memphis.

I am talking about total class and it is still rare but possible should be happening more when they live down the street from your school.

Watch out SunBelt secondaries....ya'll might see 6'4-6'3 (Owens, Johnson, Champaigne) tall physical receivers as X & Y receivers for the Panthers next year! Penny will be flying under the radar as a slot receiver to carve up yards...cant double triple team Penny anymore

Great job by Shawn Elliot. He's proving that Trent Miles was nothing but a hack as a head coach.

Your reaction after meeting your HC at his first Spring Game should never be "Oh CRAP!".

CTM is ill suited for the job of FBS HC.

this is my impression of both coaches from videos and such.
CTM: "we may not be the greatest football team in the world, but play your best and we might win!"
CSE: "you are fuking winners, gd darn it. Go kick their azzes if you want to play for me!"

CTM doesnt like people. His tact is "leave me alone and let me work" which is what you need from a program building HC. And I say that after having met him and having alarm bells go off and hoping I was wrong only to have the alarm bells confirmed by others. CSE and his staff get "it". They understand all of the little things thta go into building a program and reaching a disaffected fan base. Have to recall that we had the worst AD in America who had no idea how football programs work (career basketball school AD) and was more focused on a nest egg for retirement. The attrition and ill will she created towards this program ion campus and in this city in 5 years was enormous and CTE's attitude was the crap icing. Cobbb abd by extension CTE have had a huge repair job to do locally on campus, with HS coaches, with media etc. But he and his stuff understand how programs work and how to build one. Their mastery of even something as small as social media has been huge. I smiled when after the clock hit 0:00 in Orlando CSE's first reaction was to go to the stands and start shaking hands. CTM wuld have likely start growling about how more fans should have made the trip. But then again CTM would have blown the lead on WKU and called 3 timeouts while down by 21 and 2 seconds remaining.

None are a whole lot higher, but still, I'd say the fact that five teams are higher is significant.

You might want to check head to head records between SBC ands CUSA between 2000 and 2010, and then 2011 to 2017.

From Jeremy Wise before we crushed North Texas:

"Conference USA was 33-14 in the 2000s against the Sun Belt – which formed as a football league in 2001. In the 2010s, the Sun Belt has closed the gap – entering Saturday’s action 22-24 against its rival." We've been gaining ground for a while, and with the new coaching hires, and the loss of Idaho and New Mexico State, we should be even stronger.

The "gap" between the SBC is inconsequential. We had dozens of UNT fans saying that Troy's stats didn't matter because we played "inferior competition". Well, they got #funbelt'd. GSU and WKU, had equal records and GSU came away with a 10 point win in a game that wasn't even that close. FAU is carrying your league right now, and you guys need to admit the decline is real.

Also, you can't use the words "only slightly" and then follow it up with "significant". Those ideas are not compatible.

Who are you quoting? Me or the LT fan? You replied to me, but took out what I actually wrote.

RE: 2018 Class FB Recruiting Thread
Another thing to take in unless a team is putting a huge difference between conference members in the national rankings there is very little difference in being 1st or 5th in the Belt if we are all just a recruit or two in difference. Now I would rather have those two or three more players all day everyday but if the 1st place team is 90th ranked in the country and 5th is 97th that could be just signing 24 instead of 25 kids. If our top team is in the 70's+ and the rest of us are in the 90's plus that will show up on the field if that team is consistent doing so, given you dont hire Tyson Summers but none of us consistently exceed hit the 70's with or even 80's. The more you expand it out to the entire FBS is becomes more clear but the team that live for years at the bottom of the rankings even in our conference typically finish worse that ArkSt who has been the best at gathering talent which includes jucos and transfers not just recruits.

So out of the thousands of recruits you make a conclusion based on two kids....wow...Also not true based on your 24/7 site.

I mean when you have low three stars and high 2 stars there's really no way of knowing who will be better. It seems over the last 3 years at App our lowest rated recruits have been the best early contributors.

I think the best indicator (in the high 2 to mid 3 range) isn't to look at the star but to look at the offer list. For instance your "3-star" QB commit is only showing an offer from Valdosta State other than GS...

Prime example is Tim Frizell in the 2016 class. We "took" him from UTC on signing day and he was the only true freshman to see the field on defense for the Apps playing in all 12 games.

Interestingly, everyone program's average star rating took a hit when their athletes signed. This didn't seem to happen as much to other conferences. We had several teams in the 80's this morning, now we are all 79 or less.

Well there is little to real difference in a high two and low three...there a huge difference in a borderline four star and any two. Most two stars are not sniffing P5 offers while high three make up the majority of P5 rosters. Same for any tweener grade really. A high four is not much different than a low five etc..glad to see some know that not all stars grades mean every kid is ranked the same though....most people miss the numerical grade as if it is meaningless.

Individual examples are just that you have literally thousands of recruits to base what happens with most recruits overtime and most of the time the grades are solid and accurate. This is why I said you have to look broader at national rankings to see if there is real separation like AL vs Vanderbilt and not just conference ones and per recruit avg of your entire roster rather than one class or one recruit.

If you have a guy running your site they will update, if you dont you depend on the the general staff of the site to update your rankings and grades from other sites. They usually get to everyone eventually though.
