RE: When is ECU going to get a new DC?
Been a little dead hasn't it? I haven't even heard many candidates.

Greg Hudson is out of a job I think, his D's weren't the best statistically but they were a heck of a lot better than we recently have had. Doubt Mo would give him a look though.

I'd be all for Hud coming back to Greenville.

Take him a heartbeat. I think he may be too overbearing for Mo's style. Mo seems like someone who wants to take all the limelight and Hud is pretty outspoken.

Bob Trott from JMU is worth a look. Gave up around 9 ppg this year and is from Concord.

The whole staff from JMU is worth a look but that is another subject for another day. Also I would take Hud back and that whole staff as well in a minute as well.

Former Pirate, and

Quote:...during the four-year span from 2014 to 2017, Jacksonville State collectively ranked first nationally at the FCS level in defensive completion percentage (50.2), second in pass efficiency defense (105.5) and rushing yards allowed per carry (3.0), third in total defense (284.1 ypg) and yards per pass attempt (5.93), sixth in rushing defense (104.4 ypg), eighth in scoring defense (18.8 ppg) and ninth in sacks (133) during a timeframe covering 51 total games.

He was a finalist for FCS Defensive Coordinator-of-the-Year honors in both 2015 and 2016.

A solid FCS coach. Better than expected, in all honesty. We'll see how it goes!

As far as we have slid, probably the best we could get with a head coach a year away from being fired....

RE: East Carolina hires David Blackwell as defensive coordinator
Quote:During his first year with the Rams in 2012, he played a pivotal role in the nation's second-biggest turnaround with a 6-5 ledger that followed a 1-10 mark a year before his arrival.

As co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at then-Big East member USF in 2009, Blackwell directed a group which ranked 24th at the FBS level in total defense and tied for 19th in scoring defense on the way to an 8-5 record and an International Bowl victory.

Hope he can turn us around too!

The more I read, the more I like this hire... Played at ECU, worked under Logan, terrific defenses (but at the FCS level). Seems to come from a winning culture, and we could really use that.

Here's Sammy Batten's write-up - http://www.fayobserver.com/news/20171207...ve-defense

I don't have any problems with it. You gotta think guys that are good in the FCS have to be good coaches. It's probably a lot tougher to make their recruits good than it was for Pruitt to work with the 5-stars he was being handed at Bama.

Maybe, but at the same time JSU is a power at that level, and the disparity between the top FCS schools and the middle to bottom is probably wider than in FBS.

And I’m not sure if that was ever going to be a permanent arrangement

How about MO? When is that gut gonna get shiitcanned?

If Mo gets 6 wins next season...you are stuck with him for years.....

Because we have no other choice we hope that Mo figures this coaching thing out pronto. There used to be a time when programs gave a coach some time to figure it out (Frank Beamer was 24-33-2 in his 1st 6 seasons at VT with no bowls & a 2-win campaign in his 6th year as HC). Problem is I don't see Mo being loyal to ECU if he figures it out, particularly after the heat he's felt here lately. Like it or not that is where we're at. Unfortunately, the bar has been set so low that ECU fans may actually be happy with a 6-win season at this point.

As to this thread...solid hire.
