Will Dial and JT4 be the most debated inclusions?

Good list Steve. I'd replace JT4 with Grant Long. Otherwise I think you're spot on.

Thanks.

JT4 has a chance to earn his spot if he leads EMU to the promised land this year or next.

I don't think anyone has mentioned the Thomas twins. Carl was a bit better.

Marlatt Higgins and Mcintosh were all on the same team during their years at emu

No disrespect to Grant Long, but his stats, over FOUR years, were not really off the charts. He did, however, play much better his last two season and did play on a MAC championship team.

Long had one very good season and one excellent POY season.

Some of Grant long's success can be contributed to the coaching change when Ben Braun took over. There was immediate discipline and structure implemented when Braun took the reigns. Braun's approach is to work the offense inside-out. Plus Braun got Grant in the weight room and developed his game. Grant took it from there with his great athleticism, grit, soft hands and hard work.

JT4 << Grant Long

Now (last 2 games) JT4 is my MAC POY. Playing like the 'Shaq of the MAC'.

Marcus played only one year so that hurts him.

I realize that Gervin played one year but averaged like 30 ppg. That was during the days of no 3-point shots (correct?) so he didn't pad his stats with a bunch of high value shots. Much like Pistol Pete Maravich who if we had the trey his scoring would be even more amazing.

P.S. to Bob: Have you watched JT4's last two games? His performance for those two games are up there with the MAC's greatest post players of the last 30 or 40 years. Players like Gary Trent.

JT4 was rattling the rim all night last night.

No slight to Grant Long or Marcus Kennedy, but if JT4 continues to have a monster season like he is, he gets the post slot on my All-Time EMU 5. It should be noted that JT4 has NOT (NOT!) padded his stats vs. NAIA opponents (matter of fact they are actually the worst of this season). His best stats are UNF, Oakland, Arkansas State, Howard.

Who's Cofield?

Cofield was a 6'3" brick house. Seriously he could have played LB. I played a pick up game with him once and he was so humble. He played a couple seasons in the NBA. He could dunk it anyway you could imagine. Just an incredible athlete with handles and with a jump shot. He's on the top 5

Agree with Fred Cofield being in the top five. Only two years at EMU, but they were excellent seasons.

I admit to being biased because Fred was a few years older than me and when he played at Ypsi High, guys my age looked at him like he was an NBA player. He's still a one of the coolest guys you'll ever meet.

Fred averaged 20.6 ppg as a shooting guard his senior season. When's the last time we had a 20 ppg scorer? That's rhetorical and that person played in the NBA too.

Boykins no doubt, 25 ppg:

https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/pla...ins-1.html

Kennedy MacIntosh also 25 ppg:

https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/pla...osh-1.html

Gervin was close to 30 ppg.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Gervin

I'll add Grant Long based on his last two season and esp. his last one 23 ppg + 10 boards.

I'll leave the 5th slot open. Could be Dial, Cofield, or if JT4 has 4 good seasons at EMU will add him.

I dare say that JT4 is way ahead of where Long was at comparable points of their careers.

And as suggested winning a MAC championship is a big plus.

Admittedly, I am biased. Cofield was my hero when I was a junior high school point guard. But you can make a case for Fred in the top five, just as you can for others.

Great topic for discussion.

To answer Sam's question on 20 point scorers, in their senior years Brian Tolbert (20.5) and Derrick Dial (20.7) accomplished this.

I think the top 4 is undebatable in Mckintosh, Gervin, Long, and Boykins. After that there is probably a long list of honorable mentions that would be hard to decide which belongs as the number 5. Seems like Cofield should be on that list.

I'm in agreement with the named four: Gervin, MacIntosh, Boykins, and Long.

So far we have a list of say half dozen (or more) candidates for the 5th slot.
