We're pretty lucky with our bowls, other than the date of DG for those that aren't in driving distance they're in good locations for the majority of conference members. We could be the MAC.

I would like to allow the champion to select their bowl destination now that we'll have a CCG next year.

Does anyone know what Bowl games has the MAC brought fans to game?

Believe it or not, the MAC teams travel reasonably well to Mobile.

So why send GSU out for the biggest pay day? Don't we want to give our entire conference the best shot at getting paid?

It's like giving the ball to a back up on the last drive of the game. We should be sending the best team to the highest payout.

Sounds like you're thinking only the schools who WIN their games get a payout? I may be reading you wrong, and I apologize if so. And as mentioned in other posts, its really a "payout" not a payout, and it gets shared by all schools in the conference.

My question is why doesn't the conference shift its attention to the Cure Bowl? This game has the highest payout and it's matched against an AAC team.

It's New Orleans and it's INDOORS in December. After the freezing temperatures at the 2012 Independence Bowl when ULM was there, all I want when we go bowling again...and we will...'cause I say so....is to be inside out of the weather for a game.

Only true if the winner also happened to sell more tickets than originally allotted. Sell more than your allotment, you make more win or lose.

Thanks for clarifying. I'm not complaining about Apps pick. We are three for three in seasons eligible. I'm thrilled.

It just seems we had better options to send to the Cure. Teams that will win and travel, maximizing the potential earnings for our conference, whether it is for what's advertised or a fraction of what's advertised.

That being said, I hope GSU and my man Shawn Elliott make it happen in Orlando!

Not the case as I understand it. No extra reward for winning the game. In fact, in App's case, our bottom line is smaller if we win, because we owe Satterfield an additional $40,000 ($15,000 for winning the game and $25,000 for a 9 win season) 03-wink

As an aside, I'm sure Scott took his family out to a nice steak dinner after Saturday. He hit $50,000 incentive for the conference title.

Unless I'm mistaken, any profits from the bowl games go to the conference, not the participating team(s). The participants get a larger part of the distribution of shares between the bowl participants and non-bowl participants, but all of the conference teams get a share of the bowl revenue. It may be the bowl teams only sharing, but I thought they had passed a resolution for all teams.

Edited the above post to add additional $25,000 for a 9 win season. A lot on the line in the Satterfield household if he beats his buddy Candle again!

Believe it or not, the MAC teams travel reasonably well to Mobile.

How many fans do they bring?

Usually about 5,000 plus per team. Sometimes more. That's enough to fill the hotel rooms.

4 trips to Mobile, NIU may have brought that many and Toledo did ok. Ball St. and Kent was less than 1000. That is why Mobile will keep the SBC contract. SBC carries those bowls.

Ohio didn’t bring much to Indy Bowl. Not that they should have since there’s not
Much in Shreveport.

Bowl participants get 50% of their own ticket sales. If that is insufficient to cover the estimated expenses the conference sets for each team at each game then the bowl money will be distributed to the team to try to cover the shortfall.

If there is money left over after that it is split among all members.

But if you have strong sales and keep your costs down you can make a profit. The Jonesboro Sun kept doing FOIs on AState's bowl trips but never got to write the Red Wolves lose money story and I think gave up. We got subsidized for Cure but still came out a bit ahead.

I seem to remember our first NO Bowl trip there wasn't a conference sharing setup, and it was put in place for our second trip.

Yeah 2011 there were two teams who sold a crap ton of tickets.

My question is why doesn't the conference shift its attention to the Cure Bowl? This game has the highest payout and it's matched against an AAC team.

Payouts mean nothing since it’s all split between all the conference members, even the ones who arnt in bowls.

And it’s the AACs last place team, usually a 6-6 AAC or they don’t have enough and we get a WKU

I understand that. So why not send our best teams to go get the biggest payout? Our largest payout potential rests in the hands of GSU. No offense.

Conferences get the payout win or lose. So your whole post is invalid for the argument.

It was more a question than an argument, as stated in the post.

I appreciate all the insight.
