You're missing a couple of steps. Dykes left LA Tech in Dec 2012. He spent 3 subsequent years as HC at CAL, and spent this past fall on the staff (in the radio booth, I think) in Ft Worth at TCU. Now, after all this, he has accepted the head coaching job a SMU, and will coach SMU against LA Tech in the Frisco Bowl.

Which in turn makes this an absolute must see television. The irony that he left us at 9-3 and a missed bowl and now he get that bowl back against us....wow.

It's not such a big deal. The circumstances that led to this are exaordinary, but none of it is personal. I'm excited about this game. SMU is distracted and Louisiana Tech barely wins it.

Its not such a big deal in Dallas, but in Ruston its a huge deal. A lot of folks in Ruston feel like Sonny had checked out the final couple of games because he was looking for a new job and we ended up missing a bowl over it. He certainly didn't stay long enough to clear the air.

And the Poinsettia Bowl week the year before where he was rumored to be the next coach at Houston and we had to negeotiate an extension/raise for him bowl week.

Then in 2012 he was going somewhere for sure. He loaded up for a two year run and his time was up. 31 seniors walking out the door. He's a piece of garbage I'd never want associated with Tech again.

I'm guessing he's using the term "NFL Quarterback" very loosely because I've never heard of the guy.

Graduate assistant GJ Kinne will call plays for SMU during the Frisco Bowl vs Louisiana Tech. Kinne, a former NFL QB, worked primarily with the OL this year at SMU. QB Ben Hicks is playing a very collaborative role with Kinne and new head coach Sonny Dykes in prep for LA Tech

I think the environment is gonna be awesome. It's gonna be one of the best bowl experiences this season.

There is a rumor that SMU and Tech have agreed to a home and home. This would be great for both parties IMHO.

Too much smoke for it not to be true. Both teams will have to wear throw back WAC uniforms

RE: LA Tech vs. SMU in the Frisco Bowl
I think its of great benefit for both programs. Tech will travel well to SMU especially with Dykes there to root against. SMU will draw a very good crowd in Ruston too. Plus both sides recruit each others backyards or at least they should. I am all for the WAC unis!! I got one with the WAC patch in my closet, lol!

BTW, SMU is the school I miss playing the most in the Old WAC.

Odds are slim (Slim's bags are packed for Lubbock) to none that Dykes will be on the SMU sideline in 2021, much less in 2023.

SMU? They didn’t bring no one to Ruston or Shreveport

They aren’t going to move the needle any as far as crowd, they are generation remove from being relevant.

It is good regional game against a peer opponent though

Are they still working on the endzones or are they just going with white chalk outlines?
