While you are correct in Western having limited number of wins over a p-5 school. I'm going to use the same math as some S. Miss fans use

12 Wins over Louisville
2 Wins over Miami
2 wins over uk
1 win over Vandy

Sorry, it does. To get bigger bowls, you need fans in the stands regardless of opponent or location. Its why we are all non-contract.
Let me get this straight. If our fans fill the stadium for a bowl, then we become more attractive to the P5 leagues????03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao

That is wrong on every level. Budget, enrollment, and location have everything to do with it. That's why Louisville got called up. That's why Utah moved up. That's why the Big 10+2 was considering UCF, USF, Memphis, Houston, and Cincy.

We (CUSA) are NEVER going to be P5 no matter how many people we put in the stands for a bowl game. The individual school budget (exception Rice) simply will not allow for it.

There is not ONE SINGLE CUSA school with a budget revenue higher than 35 million with the exception of ODU who has a 40+ million (IIRC) but its over half subsidized by the students.

A closer look:

This is 2015-16, but it'll give you a good picture.

1) Texas A&M $194,388,450 (SEC) Highest overall and P5
46) UCONN $79,229,275 (AAC) Highest in conference AND G5
55) WAZZU $58,753,266 (PAC12) Lowest in P5
56) SDSU $56,551,028 (MWC) Highest in MWC
64) ODU $44,681,935 (CUSA) Highest in CUSA
68) stAte $43,102,044 (SBC) Highest in SBC
72) W. Mich. $37,643,168 (MAC) Highest in MAC
73) Charlotte $37,334,851 (CUSA) Second in CUSA
81) UNT $33,278,988 (CUSA)
124) LA Tech $23,388,735 (CUSA) Lowest in CUSA
126) BGSU $22,836,309 (MAC) Lowest in FBS

THAT is why. Not because of butts in seats at a friggin' bowl game.

You do realize that a P5 school, at their worst... even when they're 'having issues' still has every advantage when they're allowed to CHEAT (Yea, NC I'm still pointing my finger at you)- and get a slap on the wrist, out-recruit, out-spend and gets MORE money from biased-assed networks, than a G5 team at their best (and that includes MAC, MWC, and even the Sun-Belt schools... nope, I'm not including the AAC, because they're on this "G6" ridiculous power trip.)? Why? Because of their "name" or their "conference".

So you know what... if we can beat one of those "big money boys" AT ANY GIVEN TIME.. I don't give a damn if it's a Baylor team at it's worst... an FSU team that's middle of the road. Hell, even a Vanderbilt team that is sliding back on hard times.

You're damn right I'm putting that feather in the cap of _ANY_ C-USA school.. whether it's one that I "love" as a rival, whether it's one that doesn't move my radar, or if it's one where their fans think they're bigger/badder/smarter than the rest of us (right or wrong).

As a fan I enjoyed Western's games vs USF and Memphis more than I would playing a 6-6 Pac 12 team.

We are never completing with the P-5 schools for anything in football. We might like to think we are. But we aren't no matter how much you want to believe that. And especially one from the west coast. Now if it's a state school or a border school it's a little different. But other than it being that....we are not going head to head with them at any other time,.

We are the AAC schools...as much as those schools think we aren't. We are all G5 and to get to the top of the G5 it helps beating those schools you are fighting against. Those 6-6 P-5 teams are being looked down on as bad teams that year. If you beat them...well they are awful. If you lose...you must be awful.

No one is getting anything from that win come the following Sept. You are not getting ranked because you won a bowl game vs a limping P-5 last Dec. Beating them in Sept helps and yes I enjoy playing the P-5 team....

no matter how bad they are you gain from beating them. Even if they end up 3-9. You still gain early on from beating a Ill, or a Vany or any other bottom feeder P-5. You have a chance to build off that win. You get some press off that win. You can point to that win...

DEC....is forgotten by Sept.

As we seen it in the S. Miss Indy bowl thread....

a S. Miss fan pointing to 8 or was it 11 times S. Miss beat FSU. Then telling all of us how great S. Miss is for doing that. What he did not say was...all but 2 of those wins came when FSU was D2 or something like that.

Same with the Bama win....3-9 that year but some fans want to act like they beat the Bama team of today. So that is what some of you look at when playing these teams while they are down. To some of you it's more about....look at me/my team than beating a good football team.

No matter how much you want to think you are....you are not competing with FSU or even Ole Miss or any other P-5. You are competing for that NY6 game and against those schools that are fighting to be there.

It's funny how S. Miss (some) fans go begging on the AAC board...please invite us, we miss you. Like a freaking fan has any control over that. But you really don't want to play them in a bowl game. Makes no sense

Marshall beat Maryland, and in September the press still talked about the Marshall team that beat Maryland, and we received preseason votes. It does matter. The first step is overcoming denial....

GoHerd is right isnsofar as the UMD game in 2013. However, YG has a point as well. I think the "east coast bias" plays a role as well....and the bowl slot itself. If we hhad played that game on a Monday at 2PM in NM or TX or AZ, I'm not sure that many would have seen it or cared to have watched it.
