I see something brewing between our teams as well even on the recruiting trail. We at USM know how good of a recruiter UTSA has is Frank Wilson. He brought USM our only 5star recruit in our history.
USM also knows the feeling of being left out in 96 we beat Alabama and Auburn in the same year to finish 8-4 and missed a bowl.

You've got some things mixed up....we finished 8-3
beat Georgia 11-7
lost to #14 Alabama 20-10
beat Utah St
beat UL Lafayette
beat Louisville
beat ECU
beat Memphis
beat Tulane
beat Cincinnati
lost to Houston (de facto CUSA CG) 49-56
lost to #3 Florida St 14-54
NO BOWL GAME

We were ranked as high as #20 after the Tulane win but then lost those last 2 to fall out of the rankings......
Thanks 99 I mixed up those seasons. My bad. We still were left out in 96 even though we had a ranked team at one point. We lost that championship game by getting stopped on the 1 foot line in overtime.

Tech...1997 finished 9-2 beat Alabama...only two losses were to Arkansas and (8) Auburn...no bowl. 1999 8-3 beat Alabama (who were SEC champs). Only losses were to (1) Florida State, (6) Texas A&M, and USC...no bowl.

That 1997 LA Tech team also beat CAL. And that loss to Arkansas was the infamous 17-13 loss that so many Tech fans believe was due to terrible officiating. LA Tech was a Div 1A football independent in those days, so getting a bowl bid was almost impossible.
