Why did the Death Star have to be so large?
Seems like it was always "Almost Complete". Was it built by AI or living beings? Why was biological stuff growing on it? Why could more than one be built and yet, still have similar vulnerability?

RE: Why did the Death Star have to be so large?
I read a while ago a faux-blog by a guy purporting to be a in Stormtrooper SeeBees battalion working on the Death Star. I did some quick searching but can't find it, but here is what I remember:
*He was really bored, lots of bureaucracy, complaining about the Empire managers etc etc.
*The DS was so big he never got to see anything - like how you are grown-up, live, work and die within 50 miles of where you are born.
*At the end, he didn't even know there was an attack and then, boom.........
