The team is almost unwatchable. We have no inside game to speak of, lack a true point guard, don't have a consistent scorer, play below average defense, turn the ball over a lot, and generally don't shoot the ball well.

We do shoot free throws very well though, so if we could draw 50 plus fouls, we might have a chance.

It's going to be hard to beat teams with a pulse without Varnado playing. We can beat the Delaware State's and Illinois-Chicago's of the world without him, but we really need his inside presence and his rebounding ability.

We need him to get healed up... if not soon, then I at least hope he's ready to play by the time the Sun Belt schedule starts.

That game is getting national attention. Not a big fan of the term mid-major, as we are all DI, but this is being called the mid-major game of the year.

A late second half collapse dooms the Mavs as a seven-point lead turns into a four-point loss, 62-58 at Northern Iowa.

really good game but some poor shooting did us in. UNI was making threes from all over the place.

Coastal drops a heartbreaker at South Carolina. Chants led most of the 2nd half, but gamecocks hit an and-1 with 6.5 seconds left to take an 80-78 lead. Jaylen Shaw had a good look at a 3 that rimmed out and Demario Beck had a really good chance to tip in the miss to tie it, but couldn't convert.

Welp looks like another close loss to FGCU for us which is a good team but I still expected a win. I think what happened was our team was disappointed in the attendance. This past week, UTA Athletics really pushed for a big turnout today ... everyone under 18 free, free t-shirts, black-out themed game, videos of the players requesting a turn out and it still wasn't a noteworthy crowd present ... higher than average but still not impressive.

We have a long way to go to build up a loyal following but it will happen ... once we make it to the NCAA Tournament (and win hopefully) more people will start to take the program more seriously. The basketball program is still very good and headed in the right direction with recruitment so us loyal fans have something to be happy about.

Boy the conference is really starting to struggle. I was very optimistic after the first week or two of the season, but we've collectively underperformed since then. Saw our conference SOS ranked dead last somewhere this week, we're still struggling to win.

We really need some wins today:
Coastal - 78
South Carolina - 80

Montana - 68
Georgia State - 71
(GSU was up big and almost gave it away)

ULM - 56
Jacksonville State - 75
Ugh

FGCU - 85
UTA - 78
Ugh

Savannah State - 8
Georgia Southern - 15
Early in the first half

Texas State
Abilene Christian
4:15pm

Appalachian State
Akron (-2)
6pm

Henderson State (non-D1)
Arkansas State
7pm

Little Rock
Central Arkansas
7pm

the mavs looked flat and missed many shots. we have squandered two opportunities to show that we had something to say this year. It is bad when visiting teams come in and shoot lights out while we struggle on our own court. we cant always wait till the last few minutes to get something going. the last two games showed which teams were headed in the right direction and which werent. these last two teams the mavs played both looked like they were tournament worthy and the mavs didnt.

We are having some growing pains with young players. Moments of brilliance then dumb turnovers. Ugh indeed.

Both games at halftime:

Georgia Southern 50
Savannah State 43

Texas State 35
Abilene Christian 27

Need to close both of these out.

We blow that 8 point lead and lose.

We'll be a pushover in the league this year. Don't have the pieces to replace the guys we lost from last year. Back to back losses to Southland teams is embarrassing.

one ESPN announcer is calling us Appalayshun State Mountaineers while the other is calling us Appalatchun State Warriors. WTF is going on for their producers to let that continue.
