And suddenly I'm going to be pulling for Northern Illinois.
Good Luck, Andrew.
I lived in Los Angeles when he hit that East Carolina kick in the Paul Brown Tundra.
I was sitting there in the cold and told my brother, "No way he hits a 47 yarder in this temperature..."
Suddenly, the people behind the east goalpost went nuts and it was apparent that he did hit it. I am still in shock.

I had moved into what was left of the student section in the second half. Was in the second row when the kick came right at us and through the goal posts.
The long game and two plus hour drive home made for a tough day substitute teaching the next day. But I did it with a smile on my face :)

You crazy. It was like 37 and raining that night. I thought about going and stuck my toe out the door and decided otherwise.

I loved this kid going back to his redshirt year. I was at PBS for the Toledo game and saw him kick his first field goal. Wish him nothing but the best moving forward.

RE: Andrew Gantz Grad Transferring
The story out of DeKalb makes me curious as to what really happened with Gantz at UC. A few points of interest:
Quote:Andrew Gantz had interest and offers from multiple high-major football programs...
“As soon as i talked to (special teams coach) Dan Sabock and coach Rod Carey, I realized this was a place for me,” Gantz said. “As a seasoned guy, I learned the business of college football. There were thing I went through last year that shouldn’t be part of the football world...
This past season was more of the same story for Gantz. He played in Cincinnati’s first two games before being sidelined for the rest of the year with a groin injury. Gantz said, though, he was healthy and could’ve played for the last half of the 2017 season.
“I’ve felt good for a while now,” he said. “I could’ve played my last few weeks but (Cincinnati didn’t play me – That’s part of the reason why I was looking for other options to play.”
According to Gantz, over the final eight weeks of the 2017 season, he made 100 of 109 field goals in practice. He said, during that stretch, he hit multiple attempts from 57 and 58-yards.
“That’s when I wasn’t even 100 percent,” Gantz said...
NIU got a good one. Hopefully things work out the best for him. I'll be rooting for him.

Two sides to every story.....would like the hear the Fickel side of the story before saying this is the first black eye for the new staff.

Agreed. And at face value, Gantz's comments are actually pretty vague and mild so maybe it's more of a frustration with the system/rules/circumstances than a criticism of how he was treated. I certainly think it's possible UC thought they were doing Gantz a favor by not burning his last year of eligibility in a partial semi-injured season last year. They might be right although I'm not so sure Gantz thinks so, at least based upon this article.
As far as this year goes, I think we were in a bit of a bind with UC originally expecting Gantz to have used up his eligibility thereby opening the door for Cole Smith to come replace him (and his scholarship). But it's tough to dedicate two schollies to PK and another for your punter.

A tweet from him during the National Championship game MAY have shown a little more frustration. Two sides to every story but unfortunate situation because he's such a good guy.

Dumbest tweet/statement ever made. One could actually make the argument that he WAS benched after he missed the 2nd field goal. As a matter of fact, he never even stepped foot on the field for the rest of the game.

As someone else posted above there are two sides to every story. I have heard rumblings from some corners that would not paint Mr. Gantz in a positive light.

His tweets definitely paint him in a less that positive light.

I disagree. I have no problem with someone standing up for himself (absent facts to the contrary).

Be careful guys putting assumptions on a tweet and how it defines someone's character/integrity. Lord knows, there's been worse issues with other players over the years.

RE: Andrew Gantz Grad Transferring
For whatever reason(s) Gantz decided to transfer. That's really the end of the story as far as it goes for me as a Bearcat fan. I still thank him for his contributions to the program and wish him well in the future at NIU.
As far as to the "why's" to his transfer...meh. It's almost a "taken for granted" that he's leaving because he has some disconnect with the Coaching staff...that's usually why people decide to transfer out. That's not necessarily "on him" nor "on Fickell," usually there is plenty of stuff on both parties.
Again...Good luck, Mr. Gantz. And, in the spirit of a former Bearcat HC: Next man in.
