If Seattle was smart, they would approach the Mountain West about a membership. So far the MWC has 11 Olympic members. Seattle would balance that out and give the MWC a new market.

Utah Valley? Add football and call the Big Sky. That's your only option.

Understand. But I feel we (along with many other schools) have built the WAC into something that I'm proud of now.

The WAC differentiated CSB. You know how hard it is going to be to get to the regionals in the BW? The early access to the NCAA in hoops and baseball was an opportunity afforded by the turbulent WAC. Now you’re in the same scrum as the other public ca schools.

I hate it. I get it, but I hate it.

As a BW fan I also don’t like it. Hate big 1 bid leagues.

This. It will save on travel, but diminishes CSUB

Why would the MWC add Seattle - a team who has been mostly a losing team since coming back to D1? Markets do not help anymore. Cable/Satellite providers are losing customers left and right. If you're the MWC, you're going to add Seattle and not get an increase in your next TV deal, because why???

MWC didn't even take Wichita State, they are NEVER EVER going to invite Seattle.

The BW is stable and have some clout. UCSB is recruiting 4 star players and Hawaii beat Cal in the first round two years ago. It was a matter of time before it was imploded and we were very smart to get out first. If we didn't make this move with UCSD we would've most likely been left in the dust without a conference eventually. There's no way they could've turned that down. The WAC has always been the laughing stock of college basketball. It is not a good look to be in it. The BW move actually raises CSUB's profile especially in the region. The BW last year was an aberration they will bounce back fast.

Also for the last time markets in this day and age are IRRELEVANT. Look at the WAC right now great markets but nobody cares. No TV deals not even with local FS affiliates. Cable and satellite are dying. Streaming is not only the future but the current. Time to catch up.

Nah, now I'm officially mad. The WAC was a better league. The WAC was a funner league. The WAC didn't thumb their noses at us like the Big west did for years.

I've been invested in this program since the very beginning of the runners D1 experiment, when people were laughing at it and calling it a joke,, and I absolutely hate this. I understand why the admin had to accept but I don't think it is good for the program.

If we did it your way UMKC and Chicago State would've left followed by GCU and NMSU leaving CSUB without a conference. That's where it was headed, CSUB saw the writing on the walls thankfully.

So everywhere I am looking I am seeing that the WAC's RPI is higher than the Big West. CSUB will do fine in the Big West but I don't think it will play as good teams when compared to the WAC.

Figured CSUB or Sac St would be joining the BW since it would be odd for the CSUs to suddenly give up their voting power.

I'll miss watching the Runners playing in the WAC. I agree with CPslograd that the WAC is a much funner conference and probably a better one too.

RE: CSUB Moving to the Big West in 2020
You're right it is currently. You people just aren't understanding. The WAC was bound to implode after this year. UMKC was almost certainly leaving, Chicago State probably following. GCU and NMSU tried to get out last year. CSUB knew this was coming and made the right call. This was their only shot to get into the Big West, a stable conference which will be back on the upswing. They made the right call. Hawaii won an NCAA tournament game two years ago. Do people just forget that? No team from the current WAC has done that since football exploded. In fact only two teams have been dancing in the modern era. CSUB and NMSU. It was fun while it lasted but let's face it we all knew this was coming eventually. CSUB was really smart to get out before the walls came in on them. They would've been left without a conference if they had stayed. This is the final deathblow, now all others are scrambling for their future in D1 and I'm very happy we aren't one of them.

Yup. The WAC's odd ball set up allowed Bako, a small ignored school in the central valley, to not only thrive but make waves in hoops and baseball (and probably other programs too). Now they just become another CA public school in the BW morass that will be ridiculed and ignored by all the big city SoCal schools.

Bako had to do what it had to do. I don't think anyone faults them for the move, they pretty much had to take it. Just sucks for fans (MBB WAC is better than the BW now, and probably would have been for most of the next decade), and sucks for the WAC as they will all be scrambling for anything in a departure from what was relative calm.

With what UC to pair up with? Yeah not happening. BW should be done for the long haul with these adds. Only time they could add would be if their FB schools bolt when the reshuffling fallout from the P4 TV deal/realignment happens.

Speaking of travel costs, Hawaii won't have to pay travel subs to Bako and UCSD...so how much is Bako really going to save?

$400,000. That's not a small amount of money for a mid-major. Plus how do you know Hawaii isn't paying for travel subs to CSUB and UCSD?
